Happy Mother’s Day for who celebrate it today 💜💜💜
In the Wheel of the Year and Pagan traditions, this time of early spring (around the Spring Equinox and soon after) is sacred to the rebirth of the Earth. The Goddess, having rested during winter, now awakens in her Maiden aspect—youthful, fertile, full of life. However, the nurturing Mother is still honored during this transition. She is the Earth herself—who feeds, shelters, and nurtures all life.
Mother’s Day in the UK (and some other countries) falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent, known as Mothering Sunday. Originally, it had more to do with returning to the “Mother Church” during Lent, but over time it merged with the ancient honoring of the Great Mother—the goddess archetype representing creation, compassion, and the power of life itself.
In witchcraft and ancient nature-based belief systems, we honor:
-Gaia, the Earth Mother
- Demeter, who mourned her daughter Persephone and gave us the seasons
- Brigid, goddess of healing, fertility, and spring
- And all divine feminine energy that births and nurtures life
So, on this day, the veil thins slightly between the human and divine feminine, letting us feel the pulse of nurturing energy in the world around us.
