National McDonald's Day! While the very first McDonald's BBQ was born in San Bernadino, CA by Dick and Mac McDonald, the company recognizes this day in 1955 as their anniversary. The short story goes like this;

1940 - McDonald’s Is Founded
Dick and Mac McDonald open McDonald's Bar-B-Q restaurant on Fourteenth and E streets in San Bernardino, California. It is a typical drive-in featuring a large menu and car hop service.
1948- The McDonald brothers shut down their restaurant for three months for alterations. In December it reopens as a self-service drive-in restaurant. The menu is reduced to nine items: hamburger, cheeseburger, soft drinks, milk, coffee, potato chips and a slice of pie. The staple of the menu is the 15 cent hamburger. Picture #1
1949- French Fries replace potato chips and debut Triple Thick Milkshakes on the McDonald's menu.
1954 -Multimixer salesman Ray Kroc visits McDonald's in San Bernardino intending to sell the brothers more Multimixers. The 52 year old Kroc is fascinated by the operation. He learns from the brothers that they are looking for a nationwide franchising agent.
1955 - The First McDonald’s Opens
Kroc opens his first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois on April 15. The attention getting red and white tiled building with the Golden Arches was designed by architect Stanley Meston in 1953. First day sales are $366.12. Picture #2

Today is National Former Prisoners of War Recognition Day.

National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day on April 9th honors the courageous men and women who have endured brutal treatment at the hands of their captors. As a result, they’ve also suffered separation from family and displayed incredible endurance and faith during their captivity. The original intent of Former POW Recognition Day seems focused on the events of April 9, 1942, dubbed the Bataan Death March and on World War Two in general, but over the decades the emphasis on POWs overall has expanded greatly.
Since the Revolutionary War, over half a million service members have been captured. This number does not reflect those lost or never recovered. These heroes deserve not just a day of recognition but to be recognized and remembered everyday.

To every American Soldier and their families, past and present, thank you for your service.

It is National Zoo Lover's Day & Time for a chance to WIN!

Happy Pi Day!

Here's a little background on how this day came to be!

The value of pi was first calculated by Archimedes of Syracuse (287–212 BC), one of the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world.
It was first baptized with the Greek letter as its name when William Oughtred called it as such in his works dating back to 1647, later embraced by the scientific community when Leonhard Euler used the symbol in 1737.
But how did Pi Day end up in a country-wide phenomenon? For that, we need to travel to the Exploratorium in 1988 San Francisco, where it was thought up by physicist Larry Shaw.
Shaw linked March 14 with the first digits of pi (3.14) in order to organize a special day to bond the Exploratorium staff together, where he offered fruit pies and tea to everyone starting at 1:59 pm, the following three digits of the value.
Pi Day became an annual Exploratorium tradition that still goes on today, and it didn’t take long for the idea to grow exponentially, hitting a peak on March 12, 2009, when the U.S Congress declared it a national holiday.
