Not every Northern Michigan blessing arrives with words. Some arrive on the spring wind, drifting through endless rows of white blossoms stretching across the rolling hills and orchards of Traverse City.
Blessing of the Blossoms was inspired by the tradition that started it all—a humble gathering beneath blooming cherry trees, where local growers and families came together to give thanks and pray for a fruitful season ahead. Long before the National Cherry Festival became a beloved summer celebration, it began in 1925 as a simple blessing over the orchards that would help shape the identity of Northern Michigan.
Today, Traverse City is known as the Cherry Capital of the World, producing nearly three-quarters of America’s tart cherries. Nestled along the shores of Lake Michigan, the region’s unique geography creates an ideal fruit-growing climate known as the Fruit Belt, where cool lake breezes and fertile soil nurture the orchards spread throughout the surrounding five-county region. Every spring, millions of blossoms transform the landscape into a sea of white and blush petals, signaling another season of abundance to come.
This candle captures that fleeting moment when spring first awakens the countryside. Imagine wandering through rows of blooming cherry trees as fresh lake air drifts across rolling dunes and orchard hillsides. Delicate cherry blossom takes center stage, layered with a subtle blend of strawberry and cranberry (we found that these scents really drew out the cherry scent that was already present in cherry blossom itself), softened by wild honey, mossy earth, fresh-cut wood, and crisp Northern Michigan air. The result is fresh, floral, and gently fruity—a true orchard fragrance that feels like a morning walk through the blossoms rather than a traditional cherry scent. Starting from the ground up…
We tucked several nods to local history into the label design, honoring the pioneers, orchardists, and visionaries who helped build the Traverse City region. You’ll even find a tribute to Perry Hannah, often called the Father of Traverse City, whose influence helped shape the community that would become home to one of Michigan’s most beloved traditions.
Hand poured in Northern Michigan, Blessing of the Blossoms celebrates the beauty, history, and abundance that cherry blossoms bring to our region each spring. It’s a love letter to the orchards, the growers, and the generations who have gathered beneath the blooms to give thanks. Every blossom carries a promise, every harvest begins with hope, and every season is a blessing waiting to bloom. See you at the festival, whether you find yourself in TC or your burning our candle for a much needed mental roadtrip!!!
