A forgotten corner of the studio.

I love this little vignette of items that I overlook often even though they are near the entrance of my atelier.

The wooden sconces have been passed to me from my mother. The wooden plaques with dresses were given to me by mother when I first began my career in the fashion industry. The birds, well I just love birds and purchased the folk art piece when I opened the atelier.

Last week was a big week at the studio and I needed a little pause to reflect.

When I’m not creating clothes, I experiment with what nature provides and new techniques with textiles.

Here is a bouquet of flowers I’ve dried from my backyard.

I made a trellis with Day Lily reeds. Still thinking about enhancing it with other textures.

Trellis made with Day Lily reeds and linen fabric scraps.

Earlier this year I made some wreaths with the garden clippings. They’ve been getting bleached by the sun for several months and now are ready to add other dried flowers and plants.

I was inspired by an artist that sews plant material into textiles. This was my attempt.

Here you see the stitches in the back. If the flowers disappear, the stitching remains. I need to find a stitch pattern that looks pretty when the flowers are no longer there.

Here are tried a new technique on an organic cotton tee I sell in my shop. I also practiced with fabric ink and stamps. What’s not to love 😘

Here are some petals I picked from the garden. I’m pressing them. I keep forgetting to pick more while I’m in the garden in the morning. Pansies, begonias, coreopsis, and some sort of lily that is going off under my rose bushes.

Hopi Sunflowers. I grow these from seed. Apparently you can dye fabric with the seeds. I’ve tried but haven’t been successful just yet. I might need to cook them for longer and mordant the fabric. It’s supposed turn fabric anywhere from grey to purple to black.

Last Sunday, on a moments notice, I took a little time for myself and decided to drive to one of my favorite places here in Northern California. I wanted to be inspired and surrounded by beauty, which most likely involves being in a garden and amongst flowers.

It was a solo trip and sometimes as a creative you just need to be alone with your thoughts to forge a path into the next season

I walked around the beautiful grounds and am always delighted in seeing the changes each season brings when I visit. I then headed to the flower fields and picked a bouquet of very tall flowers. Afterwards, I enjoyed a delicious lunch under the shade of the outdoor pavilion.

I went with no agenda other than to have a wonderful time and I did.

I came home with a giant bouquet of flowers that I hand picked, and that I know will also dry beautifully. I placed them at the entrance of my studio to remind me of my beautiful experience.

This week, I was inspired to create this beautiful bodice top that I repurposed from a slip dress. I will add this to my collection for my upcoming event in November.
