[NFS] So many mixed emotions, lately. I recently escaped an extremely toxic boss (and all signs point to her impending termination, so I’m not just being dramatic) and was looking forward to a much-needed vacation with the bf next week, which would be my first since the beginning of January. However, bf is now under the weather and we may have to cancel rather than push back, since we have other obligations for the rest of the year. Sometimes, them’s the breaks, I guess? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Obviously, bf’s health is the priority, but I feel like I will soon be headed for burnout if I don’t take some kind of break from work soon. 😵‍💫 (Of course, I recognize that it’s a privilege to be able to take a vacation at all…) Anyway, at least I have some happy crafty projects to share from the last week: (pattern by ), (pattern by ), and a perfect gauge swatch for the (also by ). I had a bunch of yarn left over from making six of the bottle bags for various people and was pleased to find a cute way to use it up! Note: Please ignore the apparent hole in the couch—it’s actually a hideous couch cover that we use for when we are looking after my friend’s sweet kitty 😼😸🤗

[NFS] This Barbie is finally starting to reclaim a smidgen of personal time after two unusually challenging years. A tasty dinner and Barbie movie with my good friend (of a decade!) Kim turned out to be an excellent way to spend a little slice of free time. And here’s hoping for increased crafting time in my future, too. 😊 is one I made in early 2021 but somehow never wore until this past weekend. It happens to be the second one of three that I have made thus far, so I am obviously a fan of the pattern! 🤭 Created using a couple of recycled yarns (swipe to see). is another favorite that I use all of the time!

Last few hours to shop the ! Here’s my haul from Friday…may have gone a bit overboard 😅 but I have projects in mind for most of the yarn. Had a blast exploring and meeting folks at the shops, which were all new to me, with and company! Wish I could dive into these acquisitions now, but it’s back to the grind (schoolwork, followed by another stressful/boring week of the job that pays for the yarn 🤷🏻‍♀️). But hey, at least I’m finally over COVID, as of a week ago. Be careful out there, folks! 💉😷💉

This was supposed to be a post about a nice visit to last month with my friend Kim (and yes, it was lovely), but since it ended up coinciding with the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, followed by catching the damn ‘rona from my partner the next day, after he returned from a conference overseas (we are both still recovering 🤦🏻‍♀️), it is hard to get past the blatant violence, misogyny, racism, and transphobia that is inflicted upon us by this country’s leadership day after day, year after year, century after century. This fall, when the time comes to choose orgs to donate to out of my paycheck, I will be certain to add an abortion fund to the list, at least. Sigh…I kind of hate everything rn, so life is very much about trying to carve out rare little slices of time to recharge because we can’t fight the system if we are all down for the count. 😞

🙀 I. Cannot. Believe!!! I’m having a really tough week (details below) but just opened this package from my amazing newly-IRL friend, Kimberlee Fuller], and it has me bouncing around like a kid. 🥰 She and I had talked at one point about fiber-related things we find to be difficult to obtain (due to limited availability and high popularity). .red yarn has long been my white whale, but not anymore! And this combo is absolutely one of my faves. Thank you SO very much for this extra-special delivery, Kimberlee Fuller]!! Can’t wait to see you again before long. Also, your handwriting is theee coolest! ✨💖✨// So, for the tough (personal) stuff—one thing I learned the hard way during the pandemic is that for the sake of my body and mind, I cannot continue to work a desk-computer job for the long-term. I’m at the point where I have almost no interest in what I’m doing (as a senior gov’t scientist) anyway, so I’m taking prerequisites in preparation to go back to school to become a healthcare professional (specifically, a PTA). While this may seem like a dramatic turn of events, human health has been a passion of mine for almost as long as science has. I recall wrestling with the idea of switching majors when I was an undergrad but was quite happy to study geology then, which I had pursued in part because I did not want to be stuck at a desk all day! 😩 Anyway, this is probably the worst week of my new adventure so far—at work, we are preparing to host a four-day conference next week. Meanwhile, in school, I had homework and an exam due on Tuesday; have a paper and “discussion post” due today; and have discussion responses, a quiz, and a final exam due on Sunday. I know that I am responsible for inflicting this upon myself, so I’m not looking for sympathy—just giving some context for how meaningful it is to receive such a beautiful gift from a wonderful friend today.

[NFS] The confluence of Lunar New Year and the start of Black History Month seems like the perfect time to share some art from a couple of my favorite Asian and Black makers, and , which I proudly wore to an outdoor retirement party last summer. Both are really imaginative in their styles, and I love that they incorporate their unique cultural perspectives. Yes, I am super slow to post. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But especially couldn’t resist sharing because it’s “my” year! It’s pretty cool to be a fire tiger, but that also means I’ll be turning 36. 😬 This may be the year I start experimenting with hair dye, as I have quite a few more silver hairs now than I did last summer. Sigh… 😆

Oops, I guess I purchased the last of the Botánica from this morning, but this is the first time I’ve had a chance to shop with her and my love of fancy blurples is undeniable. Was indie-dyed in my budget this month? Not at all, but bday money came through in the clutch. 💪🥳💪 Sharing because I maintain that the best way to support BIPOC is to turn the flow of funds in their direction and let them do as they please with it. If funds are short, give them the floor and get out of the way. I could pile on about the KGK dumpster fire but so much has already been said about this mediocre knitfluencer who has taken advantage of BIPOC time and again that I’m sure I won’t be adding much of substance. It’s yet another reminder that work against the oppression of BIPOC continues, so yeah. Keep supporting BIPOC with funds and letting them live their lives cuz, and it saddens me to have to say this, BIPOC are human, too!

[NFS] So, like…it would be irresponsible of me to not at least try to finish this 1.5-yr-old WIP in time for Halloween, right? Leave it to me and ADHD to get through the most challenging parts of a project before moving on to the latest shiny new object 🤦🏻‍♀️

[NFS] Things may be looking up for Newsom, but we can’t afford to mess around, California. Vote NO on the gubernatorial recall—tomorrow is the last chance! - Top is a (). Not my usual color scheme, but I kind of love it?! Def one of my most favorite pieces. Will make another post later to show the garments I recycled to harvest the yarn for it. - Photo courtesy of my daddio. ☺️

[NFS] Northern California is an apocalyptic hellscape these days, so when work requires a new headshot but you’re teleworking and confined to the indoors, you take the photo in the one place at home that gets adequate sunlight for most of the day (condo living, amirite?). Yes, the garage needs to be swept, and yes, the tresses could use a trim, but I wasn’t about to waste makeup just for one lousy work pic. Hence, this ridiculousness that makes me look like an excessively bored housewife (no judgment against non-working partners, who often do a great deal of hard unpaid labor and ought to be compensated for it). Anyway, just wanted to share my set, which is so comf! 🤗
