I just pulled over in my church parking lot to write this because it’s burning in my soul.

Christmas was never meant to be a burden.

Paying expedited shipping to make it magical and stressing about going into *more* debt and keeping up with all the pics we see on social media is an absolute scam.

A scam of evil proportions.

Don’t get me wrong.
I’ve done it.

That’s how I know … it’s a scam.

We’ve got to let it go.

I’m not going to pretend to know what that means for everyone, but I hope it gives you permission to release yourself from the charades and parades and all the demands that are never ending.

He came to free us.
Not burden us.

My child,

I hear you crying from your crib.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll hear you talking in your sleep.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll watch you argue, fuss and fight.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll see your cup is almost empty.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll feel your forehead is getting warm.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll see you round another base.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll cheer as you walk in cap and gown.

And I’ll get up.

I’ll glance down the aisle as you await your spouse.

And I’ll get up.

And throughout the years, as you go and grow, I know I’ll be growing, too. I’ll question if I am doing any of this right, and then I’ll think back to where we’ve been, how far we’ve come, how God promises He’ll carry us on.

And when I fall to my knees overwhelmed sometimes, I’ll keep asking God to guide and protect. He’s always been faithful to reach down and comfort His child, and with His help — I’ll get back up.

As long as I’m here, I’m here for you.

Mommy loves you with all I’ve got.

I’ll get up.
