Silliness of Sewing

Silliness of Sewing All of my sales go toward supporting and raising my wonderful twin Sidekicks. Thank you friend! 🍓 Hi! My Sidekicks keep me constantly busy!

My name is Sylvia and I am the powerhouse behind Silliness of Sewing. I've been sewing since the year 2000, after taking a Home Economics class in Junior High. Other than that 16 week class, I'm mostly self-taught, thanks to good old trial and error. I try my best to sew every day in my free time, but that usually only happens when we aren’t doing important family things together. I love all thing

s geeky and nerdy, so that is my main focus when I sew something up. I make costumes for fun, but mostly only for family and super close friends. That being said, I have SO MANY amazing pillow ideas that I want to share with the world, so here we are~

All of my sales go toward supporting my wonderful Sidekicks and myself. In case you needed any more of a reason to support my little shop! ^_^

Please feel free to inquire about custom pieces. I've made some crazy stuff, but remember that I always hold the right to decline making an item for you. Usually I just say no to costumes, but throw a pillow idea my way and I'll most likely be all over it. Though I use Facebook to update with progress information, you may follow me on a few other sites that I try my best to post on more often:

"Grandma how do you deal with pain?"
"With your hands, dear. When you do it with your mind, the pain hardens even more."
“With your hands, grandma?"
"Yes, yes. Our hands are the antennas of our Soul. When you move them by sewing, cooking, painting, touching the earth or sinking them into the earth, they send signals of caring to the deepest part of you and your Soul calms down. This way she doesn't have to send pain anymore to show it.
"Are hands really that important?"
Have a nice day ❤️

"Yes my girl. Think of babies: they get to know the world thanks to their touch.
When you look at the hands of older people, they tell more about their lives than any other part of the body.
Everything that is made by hand, so it is said, is made with the heart because it really is like this: hands and heart are connected.
Think of lovers: When their hands touch, they love each other in the most sublime way."
"My hands grandma... how long since I used them like that!"
"Move them my love, start creating with them and everything in you will move.
The pain will not pass away. But it will be the best masterpiece. And it won't hurt as much anymore, because you managed to embroider your Essence.”~

"Don't ask artists to lower their prices for you.

It's not disrespectful to say that you can't afford their prices, or to ask if they offer payment arrangements. But saying that their prices are too expensive, or asking them to give you a lower price than normal, is rude.

I spent the first nine years running B&B working ridiculous hours, scrambling to make sales, and constantly offering deeper discounts because I was desperate to have enough income, as a disabled person.

When I started things up at the end of 2022 after a several year long hiatus, I was determined not to disrespect myself like that ever again.

My time and energy are worth fair pay. My years of experience are extremely valuable.

I have ways that I gift pieces to folks on occasion, but not everyone can afford my work, and that's okay. High quality handmade jewelry is a luxury.

Thank you so much to everyone who supports me and understands that artists deserve to be paid for our time and expertise. 🖤🥰"

First pillow I have made in quite some time. So hi there! XD This is a Christmas present for a special little nephew of mine. I hadn’t made anything for him yet(😱🤣), so when I saw his drawing of an ancient sun, I just KNEW I had to attempt to put it on a pillow. Hopefully he likes it.

This is my first time trying a stitching method like this. I used regular copy paper to transpose the art to the fleece, so there are little pieces I couldn’t get out without tearing out the stitches. Luckily though, it will wash out over time. ;D

Carpe diem, friends! I hope your days are blessed this holiday season. 🍓🍓🍓

Have you ever heard of Toca Boca? I had no idea it existed until yesterday. XD I still have to look into it more, but the first video I watched had this Paper Bag Cat and I KNEW WHAT I HAD TO DO. So I got started this morning, drafted a pattern and cut out the pieces before 6am. Posted a WIP. Then proceeded to take the following five hours to rush this baby into creation while still managing the typical weekend morning routine. Idk how I did it exactly, but I did. I didn’t track how long it took me to draft and cut the pieces, but the rest of it took 3 hrs and 15 mins. So let’s just say a total of 4 working hours to bring this from materials to an actual plushie.

Birthday girl squeezed the heck outta it. I did not get a picture. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣 And the party was so much fun. You can never go wrong with a bunch of kids under ten throwing a bowling ball half way down the lane and somehow still managing strikes or spares. Black magic, I tell yah!!!

So there’s a birthday party the Sidekicks and I have to go to today at noon… LET’S DO THIS.
