We're moving!
As some of you may know, the beloved Custom House building which holds Emporium 32 was sold last year in an off-market sale. Despite the fact that our new landlords own multiple ticketed tourist attractions, a tour company, three gift shops, a "haunted marketplace", numerous residential and commercial rental properties, two restaurants, and a hotel, they have informed us that their investment can not be truly profitable unless they also take over our 800 square foot store as well, and as such, they will not be renewing our lease at 6 Central Street. "It's not personal, it's just business", they told us.
What does that mean for us? Well, to say we panicked is putting it lightly. June 2026 marks our 10th anniversary in Salem, and we had hoped to spend this time celebrating that milestone, not dealing with the five stages of grief. We've poured our hearts and souls into this shop, worked more hours than we can count, shed more tears and laughed harder than we have anywhere else, and have been a part of hundreds of thousands of vistors' lives. We took a derelict storefront that sat closed for years and turned it into a downtown destination with a community of incredibly loyal customers, both from Salem and all over the world. We like to think that by doing so, we have inspired many others who came after us, making Salem a little more beautiful each season. And we weren't ready to give that up, so we got to work.
We've spent the last several months searching the city for a new home for Emporium 32, and we're pleased to announce that we finally found one. As of Spring 2027, you can find us at 214 Derby Street, in the space previously occupied by the late, great Pyramid Books. It needs a lot of work and the Nick and Jillian touch, but we can't wait to transform it into the space of our dreams, and with 2000+ square feet to play with, we can't wait to expand our collection of offerings!
The Central Street location will remain open through December, so you still have lots of time to stop by and say hello in the next few months. Follow our socials for updates as we transform our new home on Derby Street!
