Community isn't just a word in Salem; it's something you see in action. ❤️
Last night, during the intense downpour, the Witch City Mall experienced significant flooding after water rushed up from a pipe into the building. Unfortunately, Pub & Cloth was one of the stores affected, with water making its way into our shop and flooding. It was a stressful and overwhelming situation, but what happened next reminded us exactly why we're so proud to call this community home.
Even though we were closed at the time it happened, we were contacted by neighboring businesses about the situation. We noticed that immediately and upon our arrival, fellow shop owners, employees, volunteers, friends, neighbors, and even young people dropped everything to help. There was no hesitation. People grabbed brooms, squeegees, towels, blankets (anything they could find). This was to push water toward the drains, protect businesses, and help each other however they could. It wasn't about whose store was flooding. It was about making sure everyone got through it together.
That spirit of teamwork continued for hours. People checked on one another, shared supplies, made hardware store runs, and never stopped until the job was done. By the end of the night, countless soaked shoes and exhausted smiles told the story of what real community looks like.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to every person who lent a hand and was a part. To our fellow businesses such as Wolf Moon, Zitelle, Essex Pizza, NAGLY volunteers and staff and more; we are eternally grateful and thankful of all of you. Also, thank you to Essex's NY Pizza for not only helping and being a part, but for feeding everyone working after the cleanup, and every single person who gave their time and energy: we are beyond grateful.
Moments like these remind us that while we may each own different businesses, we're all part of one family inside these walls.
Thank you for showing what Salem is truly about. We have some cleanup ahead of us, but we're thankful, we're optimistic, and we'll be back doing what we love because of the incredible people around us.
This is what community looks like. ❤️
