Well I just received word another one of the shows I usually did for my the wedding coats and baby blankets has decided to postpone the show for another year. I have been thinking, I really didn’t want to do any shows this year anyway. Start fresh next year. In the near future I will post pictures of my current inventory of coats and baby blanket and will be selling them at a reduced price since I won’t be paying any of the show fees this year. Need to move the inventory so new project can be added

One sewing machine back in operation after receiving a new belt last Friday. Other machine was working after a good cleaning and oil. However, last night stopped working again. Finally finished this batch of masks made for children, women, men, and hospital staff. 77 in this batch. 215 in total to date made

This is Saturday now. If it could go wrong it did. Mind you I have made 93 so far no problem. I use two different materials on the outside so the user knows which side is the outside. I’m out of plain material which was the inside or closest to mouth. So decided to use a print but put wrong side out. So user can tell the difference. Hard to retrain someone that is “always right sides together”. So, when I sewed the first 7 and flipped them. The inner layer had the extra middle layer and I had two right side prints showing. So had to rip and redo. Ok back on track and sewing. Going good. Got to a good point around noon. Hubby wants to go see how much water is around after all the rain. Ok. I’ll take a break. Come back after an hour want to start sewing and machine won’t work. Sent an SOS help text to hubby to look at machine. I BURNED up the belt. I call around. No one is open or they don’t carry the belt. Google is my friend and we order what I hope will work. No problem. I have my portable Singer I got for a graduation gift 40 plus years ago from Best Products. Back in business. Zig zagging away. Take another break for a home cooked meal for my birthday. Now I’m back. Running low on elastic I need. I try cutting wider elastic in half. That doesn’t work. Frayed when really pulled All that’s left is to sew these elastic loops together, with what I have. Sounds easy right? No sir. Not with this machine. I guess it just doesn’t like sewing elastic. I finally gave up at 2 am and went to bed. Sunday , I google some suggestions to try. A stretchy needle and wrapping elastic with binding tape. Those suggestions didn’t help. So I keep trying. I give up and decide. I will hand sew the looping together with needle and thread. Should have done that the night before. Was 5 away from being done when.......the electricity goes out. Flickered a few times but then out. But I finished hand tacking. Then I hear from hubby, “you better come up. You have a 911 issue outside” . Wind blew my Amish buggy. Oh well we got them done.

138 and counting. This has been the hardest group to get done. I’m saying 4 generations were involved in this group and an Aunt in my heart. 4th generation;my grand daughter. Hand picked everyone’s mask fabric and made sticky notes “who’s was who’s “. Of course her mask had to be first sewn. That’s ok. Needed to make sure our prototype was going to fit correctly. 3rd generation; my daughter, she gets a pass. She working in the heart of it at St Joe. 2nd generation; Myself cutting and sewing. 1st generation; my 91 1/2 year old mother ironing and pinning. My Aunt passed away 5 years ago on my birthday which was Friday. I’m sewing using her machine that she passed on to me. With her supply of threads and elastic. I know if she was here she would be sewing too. We started sewing about 1 pm. Around 4 pm, I have an “elastic fairy” that searches the county and leaves a bag on my door of what elastic she has found. That helped us to reach the 100th mask sewn for the hospital. At 7:15 pm. I told my mom, “I’m done for today”. She goes, “what is it like 4:30pm.” I say, “no., it’s 7:15 pm”. Wish you could have seen her face. She couldn’t believe it was that late. The next post will show you what all went wrong.
