This is a week when fellow journalists have privately expressed wanting to leave our business. Can you blame them?

Collectively, we've been called "liars," "fear mongers," "biased," and "fake."
🎥
I have personally been bullied online by an extremist for saying "Stay safe" to a Black colleague who was covering a protest.
🎥
I've seen a reporter post on her professional account she was praying for the family of a deceased domestic terrorist, though she never posted expressed grief for the families of Ahmaud Aubry, George Floyd, Brianna Taylor, et al. Dog whistle to her base of fans or an insensitive oversight?

This is not meant to be a gripe session. It's meant to say, I hear you. I am one of you.

Whatever market you are in, whether on-air or behind the scenes, we will get through this week and the weeks to come together.

Journalism Matters.
You Matter.
We will be okay.

Ever feel like you lack story inspiration?

When I feel like I hit a wall with story ideas, I head out into the community. I look at people's faces, eavesdrop on casual conversations, sneak a peek into people's grocery carts... Usually that time out either gives me a story idea, or I am so inspired by the people I have met or observed that I become obsessed with finding stories that uplifts and educates them.
