Who is Edna Scissorhands? Edna Harper. She started her topiary garden in 1994 in her yard in Mission Hills, San Diego, California. She started it after seeing a Cape honeysuckle that had grown into her yard from a neighbor's garden and she envisioned the vines as elephants - an inspiration from the travels of her and her husband Alex. They hired a gardener, Pedro Duran, who has created and maintained the garden over the years. Edna recently passed, having survived her husband's death of a few years ago. The property is for sale, but the buyer will have to sign an agreement to maintain the garden. 3549 Union Street.
