Lobster Season is nearly a month away 🤩! The 2026–27 California spiny lobster season opens Friday, October 2 at 6 PM! Never rassled a bug before? Stop by the shop and we’ll help get you set up before opening night 🤙

Here’s a list of the essentials:
1. Lobster gauge, to make sure your bugs are legal size
2. Lobster bag, to place your prized catch with a max of 7 lobsters per diver
3. Dive light, to light up the night or those dark cracks where they tend to hide
4. Lobster gloves, because they dont call them SPINY lobsters for nothing. They will shred your basic dive gloves
5. Current CA Fishing License
6. Lobster Report Card (can be purchased at Dana Landing along with fishing license)

Long time friend and JGW team member, Christina Molina, smashes 90m at this week’s CMAS Freediving World Championships! 👊🎉

We first met Christina at Vertical Green back in 2022, which happened to be her first competition ever. It’s been insanely cool and impressive to watch her progress over the years as she continues to increase her confidence and depth. We couldn’t be happier to have her on the JGW team! She’s an absolute gem and an inspiration, and we’re stoked to keep cheering her on 🔥👏

A little background about Christina:

Christina is a California-bred ocean lover, Seattle-based AIDA instructor, and Team USA athlete. She is currently competing for the second time at the CMAS Freediving World Championships in Roatán, Honduras.

Her love for the ocean started right here in San Diego, where she got scuba certified at 14, freediving turned into a full blown passion after discovering the bliss of freefall down in Mexico. Today, she ranks among the top five deepest women in the United States (!!!) Beyond her own diving, she works to grow the sport both as an instructor and as the Fundraising Director for the US Freediving Federation.

After spending the PNW off-season focused on pool training, strength work, and dry EQ training, Christina came back ready for the line, and the hard work is already showing. She kicked off the first day of competition with a 90M dive in Women’s Constant Weight (CWT)! 👏

The World Championships run through August 26th, with Christina still set to compete in 3 more disciplines: FIM, CNF, and CWTB.

Saturday’s Women’s Meetup 🤿 conditions were a little sporty but once we got out the visibility ended up being one of the better days we’ve had in a while 🙌 Thanks to everyone who came out and shared the water with us!

Had to see if the rumors were true and yes, the fish are here, they’re getting closer, and there are a lot of them.

I was able to get enough of the crew to make last minute and questionable scheduling decisions to make this trip a go. Most were on their first or second tuna trip but they got more dialed every drop, and despite some sporty conditions, a few misses and tear outs, we managed to get a first bluefin for 2 and a PB bluefin for another. That last one was holding on by a thread and staying deep, after a long fight Lev put a holding shot in it at 27m for the win

Got back to the dock before dawn and 2 hrs later Lev was teaching a refresher, .dew was on a spear course, and was on a long range boat (glutton).

This season could get silly. is running an open party trip with us July 7-8 and hope to get more of those on the books. Every May weekend is booked, and the few we have open the rest of the year will go quick. Hope to get out there with you all, this season might be the one that gets talked about for a while!
