More about the Zora:
Designed and made in our San Francisco Atelier, the Zora is named for the first light of dawn. In reference to this year’s Met Gala theme of costume as art, Zora embodies both garment and sculpture - materials, technique and light create a living representation of the quiet moment of stillness in the garden just before sunrise. Delicately embellished with hundreds of glittering Swarovski crystals, Zora captures the magic of sparkling dew collected on the surface of each leaf, flower and vine, shimmering like delicate jewels.
Rooted in the disciplined architecture of 18th century stays, the Zora corset is an homage to traditional Haute Couture techniques, complimented by the column skirt falling in a long uninterrupted line, elongating the silhouette. Sewn using a technique called Trapunto dating back to 13th century Italy, vines emerge in low relief across the surface creating a subtle 3D effect inspired by the sinuous lines and organic forms of Art Nouveau. Along the edges and nestled in the foliage, each Swarovski crystal is thoughtfully placed and sewn by hand to mimic morning dew dripping from the vines, catching and refracting the light.
The Zora is cut in a pale aqua silk duchesse satin from milled in Como, Italy, chosen for its sheen, soft handed structure and the mill’s dedication to sustainability.
