Todd here. I have seen tons of posts from creators who talk about navigating copyright issues, and it appears to be our turn.
About 6 months ago, we discovered that another brand has been using artwork we created and published back in 2017.

Wanting to handle this professionally and not make assumptions, I reached out directly. After 15 years in business, I know things aren't always black and white. Unfortunately, our documentation confirms this is our original work, and it appears it may have been made available on a third-party stock site without our authorization.

Over the past 6 months, we have made every effort to reach an amicable resolution—including offering to license the art to them so they wouldn't face an expensive rebranding process. Unfortunately, communication from their side has stalled, leaving our legal representation ghosted while the use of our content continues to expand.

As a brand that values transparency, I plan on sharing this journey to help other independent creators understand the importance of safeguarding their intellectual property. Registering your copyrights is fairly easy and always a smart thing to do.

We are making one last attempt to resolve this privately, but I believe there is value in speaking up about accountability and protecting small businesses.

To the multiple customers who noticed the similarities and reached out to us over the past few months … THANK YOU. Your vigilance means the world to our community!

Todd here. This is a photo I took at ‘Punchbowl’ aka the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawai’i. For those who travel to the O’ahu, I always highly recommend a trip to this important space that provides a very solemn and real look at the cost of war. Here, a worker is shown polishing the headstone of a soldier who paid that ultimate price. On the 4th, I hope you enjoy a great day with your family and also remember those who gave up their lives to help us continue to push forward and make our country the best it can be. “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Max Makai is 15. We’re unimpressed and annoyed by the world. It’s been an ‘interesting’ year . Teenagers are hard, no matter how cool you think you might be. He was my first product release and still the one I am most proud of, even when things are tough. My number one goal is life is helping Max be a good human. Sometimes he doesn’t understand this and rebellion is a part of the growing process. For those of you in the trenches with me, keep fighting the good fight. Love isn’t all puppy dogs and pool-side fries. But the work is worth it!
