TK Smith looking right at home in our latest woven named the Northfork made of a six ounce rinsed denim from Japan. T.K. Smith Design and Fabrication officially began in 2008 but this true craftsmen has been building everything from surfboards, cars, and amps for a lifetime. His current business named “TK Smith” builds guitars and accessories that are 100% built at his shop in the Mojave Desert. Using mostly vintage tools and machines his guitars are truly a work of art. “Everything I’ve done in the past has been in preparation to what is now my dream business.”

Hanging on to what we have left of summer. The Dayton is Freenote’s interpretation of a classic industrial or garage style shirt. Drawing inspiration from vintage examples dating back to the 1950s, it features a camp collar, double pockets, and metal reproduction buttons from Japan. For the fabric, we went with a 5 ounce yarn-dyed herringbone made of 100% cotton.

The Northfork is a 1940s style Western shirt, inspired by vintage pieces we’ve collected over the years. Its tailored fit offers a clean silhouette while still providing ample range of motion. Designed with a longer fit, the Northfork is intended to be worn tucked in and comes in both short and long sleeve versions. Pointed, elongated Western yokes on the front and back, Japanese pearl barrel snaps, and a custom Italian-made bone top button with enamel fill all pay homage to classic Western styling while still remaining relevant today. This woven is crafted from a lightweight 4-ounce Japanese cotton-linen blend in a red and blue gingham pattern. Breathable enough for everyday wear, it has just enough structure to maintain its shape throughout the day. The Northfork is finished with 1/8” single and double needle stitch details, then rinsed and pre-shrunk before being cut and sewn in the USA.

Staying with our summer theme in August we highlight one of our favorite lightweight denims coming in at 12 ounces. The Vintage Blue Broken Twill is available in the Portola, Wilkes, and a very limited High Low Denim Jacket. This denim fabric wears well year round but is best employed during the warmer months of the year. The broken twill pattern reduces twisting and the vintage blue color has classic vintage vibes that has a quite unique look to our denim lineup. Freenote Denim is proudly cut and sewn in Los Angeles, California.

Happy Freenote Friday! Our last Aloha Shirt release of the year is officially in the house. We saved the best for last with this custom five ounce printed poplin from Japan. This is our take on the classic Hawaiian, or “Aloha” shirt — a style with real history behind it. First introduced in the 1930s, the Aloha shirt gained popularity by the 50s, worn by surfers, musicians, and island locals alike. The originals were cut from repurposed kimono fabric — Japanese textile tradition made for island life. The Aloha Cowboy is proudly cut and sewn in Huntington Beach, California.

Rinsed to remove all shrinkage and equipped with overlock seam construction, single needle blind hem, and custom labels made in the USA.
