Clothes are SUPPOSED to be expensive! ⬇️
NOT because of designer labels or trends.
BECAUSE of the labor. materials. time. skill. farming. weaving. dyeing. sewing.
We complain that alterations cost “too much”, while wearing jeans cheaper than a pizza.🍕
We stopped paying the true cost.
👖Cheap clothing means synthetic —> made from plastic. Petroleum-based fabrics shed microplastics into our water and bodies. It means underpaid labor overseas, disposable culture & buying 10 poorly made garments instead of 1 quality piece that could last years.
🧵 Then people bring those garments to a tailor expecting miracles for pennies.
📜For most of human history, fabric was Valuable. Clothing was repaired, altered, handed down, patched, respected. People understood the work involved because they either did it themselves or knew someone who did.
📺 Today, most people have never watched fiber become thread-> cloth -> clothing.
🌟 HERE is a page of a woman literally growing and making a flax dress from the ground up. Planting. Harvesting. Processing. Spinning. Weaving. Sewing.
🔔 NOT because we need to live off-grid and make our own cloth.
🔔 Because we need reminding. 🔔
We need to reconnect with the reality of what clothing costs — not financially, but morally & environmentally.
✔️ Maybe we should choose natural fibers over plastic whenever possible.
Choose quality over quantity.
Choose fair trade over exploitation.
Choose local when we can.
Choose repair instead of replacement.
