👁️ Monday Minute: Today let's learn about Dry Eye and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction.
Generally our eyes feel gritty, tired, watery, or like there's something in them.
Many people are surprised to learn that dry eye isn't always caused by a lack of tears. In fact, one of the most common causes is poor function of the oil glands in the eyelids, which help keep tears from evaporating too quickly. Sometimes this causes too much tears!
Common symptoms of dry eye include:
✅ Burning or stinging
✅ Gritty or sandy sensation
✅ Fluctuating blurry vision
✅ Excessive tearing
✅ Eye fatigue, especially with screen use
✅ Contact lens discomfort
💡 Monday Minute Tip:
When using a computer, phone, or tablet, we tend to blink less often. Taking regular visual breaks and consciously blinking can help support tear stability.
Today's dry eye treatments go beyond just artificial tears or prescription eye drops (there is a place for these). Depending on the underlying cause, options may include targeted therapies designed to improve the health and function of the eyelid oil glands. These therapies include treatments known as IPL and Low Light Therapy in addition to Thermal Pulsation.
If dry, irritated eyes are affecting your comfort or vision, schedule an evaluation to learn more about your treatment options.
