What I REALLY do to stay lean year round is…
1. I spent time getting lean. This took longer than planned and was harder than I thought it would be
2. After getting lean I focused on maintenance for several months to ensure I had the habits and my metabolic rate stabilized
3. I found out my Nutrition Archetype so I’m not trying to fight against my mind, emotions and lifestyle
4. I move daily…lift, hike, run, walk, stretch, jump rope, etc…I love how I want…and repeat it
5. I track just about everything that matters
- high points on weight lifted
- distance run
- elevation gained
- weight and body fat %
- food (90% of the time)
- sleep time
6. I flex when my mind gets too much in the weeds…that means I may change my workout today, not track everything I eat of go to bed early just because I need a break. I’m disciplined 95% of the time but I flex my schedule and habits when needed
7. I don’t follow fads
- If I want to get leaner I cut calories
- If I want to gain I increase calories
- If I want to run faster I get stronger
- If I want to feel better I sleep
- I break down all the bull$ #*+ claims from first principles, analyze the biases and don’t adopt fads just because me feed gets full with them
8. I realize a great body and great life are like gardens…they need fuel, life, energy, pruning and constant attention. I enjoy the process and don’t complain
Don’t believe the hype you see online…the basics work
