25 years later, and we still remember where we were and what we were doing that morning. The ripple effects of those events are still felt just as strongly all these years later.
Every year, we share the story of Chris O’Sullivan, our founder’s father and a veteran New York City fire Captain.
Chris was out of state that day, but upon hearing the news, immediately began his journey back to the city. He spent the following months working at the pile, doing the grueling but necessary work of search and recovery.
In the aftermath of September 11, Chris had unknowingly become the most senior captain in the FDNY, after those with greater seniority had perished.
After completing his work at Ground Zero, he was forced into early retirement because of the physical toll it had taken on his body, compounded by years of demanding service with the FDNY and U.S. military.
