Whether contemporary or traditional in style, urban or rural, we strive in our architecture for a real diversity, an appreciation of place, and a responsiveness to each client’s particular needs and wishes. We reject the idea that a successful design practice needs to be “branded” or have a signature style, or that architecture always has to shout, and we thank our clients for their willingness to

entrust their dreams not to the fashions of the moment, but to a more modest enterprise of quiet but attentive craft.

Marking the program’s 10th anniversary celebrating excellence in traditional design, we are honored to receive the 2026 Institute of Classical Architecture & Art Julia Morgan Award.

Set within a coastal landscape, the chapel and surrounding buildings draw on simple forms, local materials, and careful proportions, creating a composition that is both grounded and enduring.

The awards will be presented on June 5th at the Green Room in San Francisco.

A deep loggia stretches across the garden façade, offering a continuous shaded retreat.

At its center, an arched fireplace anchors the space, drawing people together and giving the space a steady rhythm from day into evening.

This pool house is designed as a natural extension of daily life outdoors.

Andalucian precedents guide the design, with deep columned porches and open archways creating shaded spaces for dining, lounging, and gathering, while the continuity of materials ties it to the original historic main house.

Recognized by Sunset Western Home & Design in their 2026 awards program, this Montecito home reflects contemporary ocean living.

This Mid-Century beach house frames scenic views to the Pacific and captures southern light from all angles. The landscape design blurs the boundary between indoor and outdoor living.

Coffered ceilings, carved archways and long corridors draw the eye outward to garden and sea.

Each space is defined by proportion, light and the continuity of materials carried from one threshold to the next.

Appleton Partners is honored to receive a 2026 Palladio Award for the Restoration and Renovation of Florestal – Main House.

This project was an opportunity to carefully restore a historic estate and incorporates new additions rooted in classical principles.

It reflects a deep respect for proportion, craftsmanship and material. A home that carries the belief that traditional architecture endures, shaping heirlooms for family living.
