Jackson Sundown (1863 – December 18, 1923), born Waaya-Tonah-Toesits-Kahn (meaning Blanket of the Sun), was a Nez Perce Native American rodeo rider who has become a folk hero for his mythic performance in the 1916 Pendleton Round-Up, winning the championship at the age of 52. Sundown was twice the age of the other semi-finalists but advanced after high scores in the saddle bronc and ba****ck horseriding competitions. His final ride is an event of great mythology to this day among American Indians and rodeo aficionados. It is told that Sundown drew a very fierce horse named Angel and that the horse bucked so furiously that Sundown removed his cowboy hat and fanned the horse to get it to cool off, at which time he and the horse merged into one being. Sundown won the all-around event and became immortalized as a hero of the Nez Perce. Sundown was a traditional man, having lived at a time of great transition, he fought in the Nez Perce wars with Chief Joseph and had sought refuge with Sitting Bull when he was in Canada after the Battle of the Greasy Grass (Little Big Horn). Sundown died of pneumonia 7 years after his championship at the age of 60 and was buried at Slickpoo Mission Cemetery near Jacques Spur, Idaho. At the time of his death, the U.S. Government did not consider Native Americans to be American Citizens.

Cactus Bluff is proud to offer vintage jewelry. These collectible items are from a Trading Post that was located in Albuquerque NM from 1932-1980's. Due to the depression and WWII, many of the items were made of copper and nickel silver for the tourist trade. These items were collectible by tourists traveling the Southwest. The trading post used machines and employed a number of Native people to make the jewelry. Explore our vintage jewelry on our website.

"Road Trippin" it's based on a Stetson Open Road, which is one of the most popular hats and they say it is the "cowboy hat that anyone can pull off". This is a stone-colored 4X Stetson hat, the hat is in very good condition and has some patina in the brim that is visible in the photos. The brim is a 2.75-inch brim with a pencil curl edged in and a 4.75-inch crown with a center crease. The hat is decorated with an antique navy grosgrain ribbon and has the original Stetson "JBS" cattle brand hat pin.

Vintage copper bracelet with southwest stamped designs that are deeply embossed into the bracelet. The cuff has a nice patina or can be polished easily to a bright finish. 1/2" wide by 6" around.

These collectible items are from a Trading Post that was located in Albuquerque NM from 1932-1980's. If you love western movies and you love cowboy hats, Tom Horn is a fantastic movie. The hat stylist for this movie was amazing. This movie has a great plot and the best collection of hat shapes ever in a movie. Plus, Steve McQueen, it is Cactus Bluff Approved, you won't be disappointed.
