As I Go on My Way
We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are getting ready to end this year on a pleasant note. We are going to keep this email short & sweet. We too are busy planning our holidays and our "Stuff Your Stocking" event for your shopping pleasure this year.

We have several events in the next month: Chanukah, Stuff Your Stocking, Tonie Caron’s cookies, Santa Lucia Day, Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, and the start of the new year.

In Santa Fe we will be surrounded by music, festive lights, too many cookies and tamales, farolitos and luminarias. We are hoping for snow, but things are not looking good so far. We appreciate the recent light rain. It's a start.

I plan to spend the next month piecing when I can, finishing what I can, planning my next several projects and weeding out some fabrics I might not need. It will take some time. I am not Maria Condo; I need time to say goodbye. Somewhere in there will be a glass of wine.

Reminder: Our regular emails will begin on December 10, 2021.
The next set of emails you get will be for “Stuff Your Stocking”.
Have fun.

Aunt Harriet

In my cleaning today I found a booklet my Aunt Harriet had started in 1947 of favorite quotes. This poem, with two middle stanzas left out, was her opening page. It seemed perfect for this season. Harriet Sweetland was an English professor at Berea College, then a smaller college in Milwaukee and then the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She was an Emerson scholar and an environmentalist from the 20’s on. She taught us to love Wisconsin.

She was clamming in the picture on the left.

As I Go on My Way
Poet: Strickland Gillilan (1869-1954)

My life shall touch a dozen lives before this day is done -
Leave countless marks for good or ill ere sets this evening's sun.
Shall fair or foul its imprint prove, on those my life shall hail?
Shall benison my impress be, or shall a blight prevail?

…Does love through every handclasp flow in sympathy's caress?
Do those that I have greeted know a newborn hopefulness?
Are tolerance and charity the keynote of my song
As I go plodding onward with earth's eager, anxious throng?

My life must touch a million lives in some way ere I go
From this dear world of struggle to the land I do not know.
So this the wish I always wish, the prayer I ever pray:
Let my life help the other lives it touches by the way!

Beautiful quilts for the family made by Jean Callaghan
Thank you for your Friday thoughts about checking our feelings. I am generally pretty even tempered, but I’m really struggling with the resurgence of COVID. I’m trying to be positive, but it gets increasingly hard for me in light of the continued resistance to science and the availability of such effective vaccines. Like many people this time is strange, enervating and disheartening, and today I’m having to push myself to keep going. But my quilting friends always give me hope and a reason to keep going! The broad range of resources and generosity people bring to the quilt community table enriches me and gives me confidence this difficult period will pass! Thank you all for your part in making quilting in Santa Fe, in its myriad forms, such a life affirming and unifying force!

New Mexico Cultural Entertainment The Museum of International Folk Art now has a virtual tour of the Yokai exhibit. It is about the Ghosts and Demons of Japan from centuries ago up to the modern Piccachu and Totoro characters. This incredible exhibit has been available but unreachable for most of 2020. You need to click on different topics to get through everything, but you can expand some of the pictures and really get up close. www.yokai.moifa.org. Look for the Tengu.
There is a movement to gather Valentine cards for the 2,300 workers at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. If you make or buy a Valentine card and sign it, you can drop it off at SFQ and we will call Susan Nalder or Cissie Ludlow to get them delivered. You are asked not to address them to anyone or to seal the envelope. They need to be delivered to the store by Feb 8. On the 9th they will be delivered to the hospital. If you have a favorite medical provider or even a grocery store clerk, make them a Valentine card and let them know you appreciate them.
Covid We have made some great progress in New Mexico with 7 counties now moving to Yellow, meaning safer and with fewer restrictions. Alas, Santa Fe County is not there yet. Cases are going down; deaths are going down. Let’s hope we can keep this up. ( Whoops! An uptick in cases today!) Nationally cases are dropping too. This is good news. Reports are that more people are wearing masks. Let’s hope this continues for a long time. We still don’t have enough people vaccinated and too many still refused to wear masks.
