Slowing Down for the Rain

While driving my granddaughter to school this morning we decided to turn off the radio and just listen to the rain. It has been an unusual occurrence in our area for some time. It was a delight. You could almost see the trees and plants smile.

We are all tired of heat and dryness here in the Southwest. Recent rains have led to flooding in some areas where the ground is so dry it can’t absorb the water as fast as it has arrived. Flooding is the mixed blessing of rain, especially if you have had a recent fire in the area. But we will take the water. We need it. It also brings roof leaks, but oh well.

Today is a day of slow steady rain. It is unusual. We can only grin and enjoy it. After struggling with gardening all summer there is hope for a promising autumn of flowers before the snow comes, if it comes. The sun will break through briefly today and then there is a chance for more light rain this late afternoon. We won’t count on it, but if it happens, we will be happy.

It’s a great day to stay inside and quilt, put on a binding, read a book, pay a bill or two. Maybe I’ll have a second cup of coffee.

This pre-printed panel features a washout design with a large Maple Tree in Fall/Autumn setting.
Note: fabric is dark navy blue with silver stitch markings (black and white photo for showing design detail only). Stitch it all in one color, or several different colors.
When you finish stitching, wash in tepid water to remove the markings. Hang dry, iron while damp.

This panel has 4 connected sections featuring a cherry blossom tree in full bloom with asa-no-ha stars in each corner. The cherry blossoms could even be filled with colorful fabric to further accent the design.
The outside border measures 33" x 46". The inside cherry tree 4 section panel measures 29" x 42".

We Need Your Written Opinions and Advice

A few of us are growing older, are having lifestyle changes, medical problems or general crankiness. We can have our sewing routines interrupted by pain, surgery, arthritis and by children, grandchildren, spouses or friends with issues. We have deaths of friends and family members and of course, more medical appointments. We need to adjust but still want to stay creative.
We want you to write and tell us briefly or wax eloquently how you are coping with what life has thrown at you. What did you alter? How have you adapted? What has helped? We are going to collect these responses over the next few weeks and then organize and post them for others’ benefit.
Please send us some tips, pointers or observations on how you are dealing with life’s “switcheroos”.
