Hey, friends ❤️

Trigger warning: mental health post

I want you to know that if you saw me this weekend, spoke with me, gave me a hug, I so appreciate you.

I also want you to know that after processing my weekend, I was not okay. I thought I could “bounce back” into work and “the scene” so to speak, and not have or deal with emotions that may arise. I thought my emotions would stay in check and there’s absolutely nothing that could happen that would make suppressed emotions come to the surface. I thought I had already dealt with my feelings. I have a great therapist, a wonderful partner, and some really great friends who know how to listen.

It turns out that this weekend was difficult for me, and that my family did go through a tragic event, and I’m allowed to feel a range of feelings—I just didn’t realize that I had been suppressing them.

So, if you saw me, and I seemed like I was masking, I was. Big time. Yes, it was still me, but it was me with a wall up so I didn’t have to feel all the things. And believe me—I’m still sick, and my body is tired. I am finally learning about what taking care of myself should look and feel like.

I’m grateful to the friend who pointed it out to me. I’m grateful I have friends and a therapist whom I can call to bawl my eyes out. I’m also grateful to my husband who came home with cookies and ice cream Monday night and didn’t judge me one bit when I had both, then went to bed early. Not everyone has that, and I consider myself lucky to have my support system.

If you need a therapist, I have had phenomenal luck using psychologytoday.com. There are so many search filters that make finding someone for you a relief.

P.S. y’all are so supportive, but I’m turning comments off for this one so I can rest today ❤️

Rhinebeck 2024 🐑
I didn’t take many photos this year, but if you have photos of us together, please send them to me! (I’m looking at you, 😂).

Thank you if you stopped by at Indie Untangled to say hi or match an instagram name to a face! In-person connections are my favorite because at the end of the day, we’re all real people who love crafting (whether you have a million followers or just a few)!

1. Booth babes with & at 🍂
2. Soul sister and partner in crime who lives on the other side of the country
3. One of the most genuine, what-you-see-is-what-you-get fellow Capricorn boss babe/friend —Lamont, where is the photo of all of us? 🧐
4. The kindest, most gentle-hearted woman who knocks it out of the park with every pattern she writes (she’s wearing her which is a 12/10 recommendation in my book).
5. Life-friend and fabulous yarn dyer (who is vending at this weekend, so check her out!!!!) and my ride or dye (couldn’t resist the pun) 🍁

I received wonderful hugs from many of you, and I got to meet so many new friends this weekend. I have lost my voice (tested negative for Covid twice 👌🏻) and got to support many small farms who make yarn and fiber with their very own flocks. NY sheep and wool is an amazingly magical place, and I already can’t wait to come back next year ❤️

Hi, fiber friends!

On September 4th, life got really hectic really fast as my family dealt with a traumatic event. As this situation has evolved, I’ve been able to step back into my role as a business owner in the past week and a half.

I have felt nothing but support from Lisa of in helping me to figure out my options as a vendor for Indie Untangled this Friday. I am still a vendor, but due to the time crunch and focusing on my family first, things will look a little different this year.

My good friend, Chelle, of will have all of her beautiful notions and making accoutrements ❤️ and my other booth babe and friend, will be chilling at the check out for Porter Wool Co.

I couldn’t do this without these wonderful people (including who is not just a professional friend, but has become a life friend). Sometimes life throws us curveballs, but it is a comfort to feel supported and loved by the people I call friends! ❤️

I’m excited to breathe deep, relax and feel the magic of fall, friends, and fiber festivals 🍂 I hope I get to see you there!

🍄 Amanita Mushroom Progress Keepers/Stitch Marker Combo 🍄

I love these little mushroom progress keepers made by sassafrasknits that when we sold out at flock, I knew I had to ask her to make some more!

Each of these little shrooms comes with one matching hexagon gold/silver/rose gold plated brass stitch marker. This is so you can use the progress keeper by clipping it to your work and use the hexi as a beginning of round marker, or you can clip the progress keeper to the hexi to transform your mushroom into its own stitch marker!

These mushrooms are extra-special handmade glass beads, and they’re so fun to add to your projects!

Pro-tip: I especially love using my progress keeper to mark the first stitch when working on my crochet projects! They help keep me in line 😂

You can find these on the website now under The Foraging Collection 🍄‍🟫

🌿 Elderberry 🌿

Elderberry will be available in tonight's preorder (Friday, August 30th) at 7pm ET!

Magenta and purple-ish navy tones make up this juicy, variegated colorway. This pairs particularly well with Red Clover. From L to R, bases are: Merino DK, Silky Suri, Merino/Nylon 4-ply Fi*****ng, and Kidsilk Mohair.

Like many of the aforementioned forage-able plants, Indigenous groups of North America utilized every part of the elderberry for food, medicine, and craftwork, and held cultural and environmental significance. In fact, scholars believe these groups specific to North America were the first to use elderberry. The fresh berry was used for syrups, jams, jellies, pies, and wine, while dried berries were stored to use during the winter months. Medicinally, elderberry flower teas were used to treat fevers and colds. Teas made from the elderberry fruit treated urinary tract infections, rheumatism, and was used as a diuretic or general wellness tonic. Elderberry bark tea treated diarrhea and also worked as an external pain reliever. When made into a salve, the berries and leaves treated burns, boils, and other skin conditions. In craftwork, the wood, stems, branches, and twigs were fashioned into musical instruments and ceremonial items such as flutes, smoking pipes, blowgun darts, arrow shafts, and bow drills as fire starters. In my own opinion, the coolest part of the information I found was that the berries were made into a dye that Indigenous groups used to dye baskets, game pieces, and musical instruments!

Many of the ways Indigenous groups prepared elderberry are still ways that you can prepare it as well! If you forage for your own elderberry, it is important to note that both the berry and the flower are edible, but the berry must be cooked first, as the seeds contain poisonous toxins (which can cause nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea). Pregnant women should not consume elderberry, and while commercially prepared supplements are considered safe for most, it is always recommended to ask your doctor before adding it to your regimen.

☘️ Red Clover ☘️

Available for preorder tomorrow, Aug 30th @ 7pmET!

This subtlety-variegated purple/pink is lightly speckled to resemble the individual petals of its namesake. From L to R: Merino DK, Silky Suri, Merino/Nylon 4-ply Fi*****ng, and Kidsilk Mohair.

Red Clover isn’t native to the Americas, but after Europeans brought the flower in the 1600’s, it was widely adapted by Indigenous groups for medicine, food, and skin care. As a tea, the blossoms treated whooping cough, asthma, cancer, and gout. Ailments such as venomous bites, eczema and psoriasis were treated with an ointment made from the blossoms. Indigenous healers used red clover to support women’s health—due to its high isoflavone content (which mimics estrogen)—particularly pre- and peri-menopausal women. Europeans used red clover to improve digestion, while Chinese and Russian traditional herbal healers used it to treat respiratory diseases and women’s’ health.

Red clover is actually a member of the legume family, and the blossoms can be eaten raw on a salad, dried and steeped in tea, dried and powdered as a supplement, or infused into a tincture or ointment. Modern farmers often use it as a nitrogen-fixing cover crop, so be sure to ask around if you can forage fields if you live in a rural area. Of course, it’s best to forage in organic areas away from dirty roads and pesticides, and always ask permission before foraging on private or protected land.
