Some of the best design moments happen between the rooms.

Inside the historic Humbird-Jewett-Gaiser Mansion in Spokane, this foyer and stair hall became a layered destination of its own. Ornate white millwork and a sweeping black handrail establish the architecture, while upholstered chairs, patterned pillows, a hide rug, collected artwork and a distressed blue cabinet bring warmth and personality to the space.

Every detail adds to the story: sculptural lighting, framed photography, stacks of books, natural objects and pieces that feel gathered rather than placed. The result is a foyer that welcomes you into the home while offering a glimpse of everything still to come.

Because an entryway should do more than lead somewhere. It should set the tone.

A dining room with presence.

Inside the historic Humbird-Jewett-Gaiser Mansion in Spokane, this room called for a balance of scale, contrast, and warmth. The architecture already carried so much character — detailed moulding, tall doors, dark walls, and a sense of formality — so our work was about layering in pieces that could hold their own without overwhelming the room.

A sculptural chandelier draws the eye upward, while the glass dining table reflects the light and keeps the space feeling open. Leather dining chairs bring warmth and structure, softened by greenery, candlelight, layered lamps, a carved wood console, and collected art throughout the room.

It feels formal, but not stiff. Grand, but still inviting. Designed for dinner, conversation, and the kind of lingering that only happens in a room that feels this good.

A historic Spokane living room, layered the Bungalow way.

For this phase of the Humbird-Jewett-Gaiser Mansion project, our stylists worked with the character already in the home — the architecture, the artwork, the scale, the collected pieces — and introduced new Bungalow furnishings, textiles, and accessories to bring the room into its next chapter.

The result is a space that feels grand, but not untouchable. Tailored, but still comfortable. Patterned, textured, and deeply livable.

Custom upholstery, rich textiles, sculptural lamps, layered books, collected accessories, and a few unexpected moments give the room its warmth.

Because the best rooms do not feel newly decorated.
They feel like they have been thoughtfully gathered over time.
