When I first opened Leolo, a contractor came in looking for a boot that could take him from the boardroom to the construction site without catching grief in either place.

That’s how the Leolo Moc Toe Work Boot was born.

A traditional work boot, refined with a more elegant toe. Built to work hard without looking like it has to.

Each pair is custom made to your bespoke fit, available in any color and any shaft type. We cut them from heavy 5–6 oz. shoulder leather, then hot-stuff the hide a process that bakes oils and waxes deep into the leather for added durability, protection, and character that only gets better with wear.

Finished on a Vibram Christy sole in either ½” or 1” thickness.

Stylish. Hard-working. Built for the boardroom, the job site, and everything in between.

I recently used my Suton finishing machine to lightly burnish a dark green cap-toe Oxford.

I kept the burnishing subtle, applying just enough around the toe to deepen the green color and add some extra dimension without going overboard. I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

There are several techniques for burnishing a shoe, including using dye, polish, or paint. However, my favorite method is using horsehair brushes and black Yankee Wax on my finishing machine. I find it quicker, more subtle, and easier to control, plus it automatically adds a nice sheen.

SOUL TO SOLE

This was my third trip to Detroit, and every time I leave, I carry a little more of the city’s spirit with me.

It was an honor to spend the morning with Tyree Guyton—an artist whose work has profoundly rewired the way I think about design, sustainability, and the importance of empowering people to express their own sensibilities. The Heidelberg Project isn’t just public art; it’s a reminder that beauty can be found in what others overlook, that creativity can restore hope, and that discarded objects can be given new purpose.

That philosophy resonates deeply with me. At Leolo, I strive to create shoes that are made to last a lifetime, can be repaired rather than replaced, and reflect the individuality of the person wearing them. Like Tyree’s work, they’re meant to tell a story.

There is no greater compliment than being trusted to create for another artist, and beginning the journey of crafting Tyree’s bespoke shoes is a moment I will never forget. If anyone has taught the world that color has the power to change how we see things, it’s Tyree. I have a feeling this pair will be every bit as bold, joyful, and unexpected as the man who inspired it.

Thank you, Tyree, for your generosity, your time, and your inspiration. I cannot wait to bring this project to life.
