My younger sister taught me to crochet a few years ago and I just took to it. Here's the thing though, I don't know how to read patterns so the hats and scarves I make are of my own invention. If I see a picture of a hat I can usually make it. So, all of my hats are a little different, special in their own way. I love to see the smiling faces of the people who buy my hats, knowing that 75% of the
money they paid is going to a good cause. Some people have asked my "Why Relay for Life?"
Well, I first started participating in the Relay for Life when my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I kept relaying as more and more family members fought cancer, some beating it and some passed on. Dec 26th, 2013, my dad died from prostate cancer. It was the worst day of my life, and I don't want anyone else to go through what my family and I have been through. I was lucky enough to have my Relay family at my side when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Thanks to the American Cancer Society I, as well as 1000’s more, were able to get the latest technologies and meditations to help beat cancer. ACS helps patients in so many ways:
Road to Recovery gives rides to patients to their treatments. Hope Lodge offers a free, comfortable place for patients and their caregivers to stay so they can focus on getting better. Reach to Recovery matches specially trained breast cancer survivors with people diagnosed with breast cancer and want to talk to someone who has been there. Research- More than 65 years of research! No non-governmental or not-for-profit organization has invested more to find causes and cures for cancer. I have had so many family members with cancer, far too many to count. I want to kill cancer so that no one has to watch a friend or family member go through the pain that cancer brings. Together, we can finish the fight!
