Meet the Magpies!
This is Lou Brooks of Timeless Treasures
Hi! I’m Lou Brooks, the owner of Booth 104 – Timeless Treasures. 🕰️🤎 I’m married to the love of my life, Gary Brooks, and we have one amazing son, Sam, who is 20 years old.
By day, I’m a full-time RN, and in my spare time, you’ll usually find me thrifting, hunting for vintage treasures, or working in my booth. I like to say I’m a full-time nurse and part-time thrifter with a full-time love for vintage! ❤️
My family means the world to me, and I’m so thankful for the love and support they’ve given me as I’ve started this little adventure. Timeless Treasures has become such a fun and special part of my life, and I truly enjoy finding unique pieces, giving old treasures new life, and sharing them with others.
🐦⬛ How did you get started collecting, creating, or selling?
💕I first got started thrifting when I began cleaning out my parents’ house, which is still a work in progress! My mama has always loved collecting all kinds of things, and I quickly realized I couldn’t keep everything. I’ve held on to the pieces that are especially meaningful to me and bring back precious memories, but I wanted the other treasures to find new homes with people who would love and appreciate them too.
My inspiration to take the next step and become a seller came from my sweet friend, Callie Chun, who is also a fellow Magpie. She inspired me to give it a try, and that’s where this fun little adventure began. ❤️
I love knowing that these vintage treasures, each with a little history of their own, can be passed along and loved all over again.
🐦⬛What inspired you to become a vendor?
💕My best friend saw a Facebook post about The Thrifty Magpie opening and looking for vendors. She and my husband both encouraged me to reach out to Ms. Shelli, go meet her, and see what my options were. I’m so glad I listened to them because it turned out to be the next step in this journey!
From there, my husband jumped right in and did all the heavy lifting—literally! ❤️ He helped me get my booth ready and has supported me every step of the way.
I’m forever grateful for my family and friends who encouraged me to take that leap of faith, for Ms. Shelli for giving me the opportunity, and most of all, I’m thankful to God for opening this door. What started as an idea has turned into something I truly love.
🐦⬛What's your favorite thing about being part of The Thrifty Magpie Co?
💕I love the sense of family and friendship that has been created at The Thrifty Magpie. We truly support and encourage one another. Ms. Shelli, our “Mama Magpie,” has created the sweetest little shop and continues to help it grow into something so special.
🐦⬛What do you love most about treasure hunting?
💕I just love the hunt! You never know what treasure you’re going to find. My favorite thrifting days are with my husband or my best friend, Angie. She’s the queen of estate sales and knows me so well—she’s always grabbing the things she knows I’ll love!
🐦⬛What's your favorite item currently in your booth?
💕My favorite item in my booth right now is an egg plate. I actually collect them, but I realized I already had this one! So instead of keeping a duplicate, I decided to let someone else enjoy this little treasure.
🐦⬛What item do you always pick up when you see it?
💕I always pick up egg plates and quilts, although they rarely make it to my booth because I collect both! ❤️ I’m also always on the hunt for brass and anything that looks like it could have come straight from Grandma’s house. Those are the treasures that always catch my eye! 🥰✨
🐦⬛What's something you regret not buying?
💕All the quilts I have to leave behind—because let’s be honest, I can’t afford them all! 😂 Thankfully, I have a sweet friend and fellow Magpie who keeps an eye out for them for me. She knows exactly what I love and, most importantly, knows my spending limit! ❤️🧵✨
🐦⬛What's the weirdest thing you've ever bought?
💕I’m not sure! 😂 Sometimes I pick up something that I think is a great find, and my son just looks at me like I’ve lost my mind. But that’s part of the fun—you never know what someone else will see as a treasure! ❤️✨
🐦⬛What's the strangest item you've ever sold?
💕Again, I’m not sure! What seems strange to one person might be the find of a lifetime to someone else. That’s the beauty of thrifting—it’s all in the eye of the beholder! ❤️✨
🐦⬛Favorite local business (besides The Thrifty Magpie Co)?
💕By far, the Trading Post in Senatobia! Ms. Stephanie always has the best stuff, and I can usually find a treasure—or two! I rarely leave empty-handed. 😂
🐦⬛What's something customers might be surprised to learn about you?
💕Okay, this may be a crazy answer, but… I’m a woman, not a man! 😂 My name Lou is short for Lucille—I was named after my grandmother. ❤️
When I first went to meet Ms. Shelli about getting a booth, she was expecting a man to show up! 🤦🏼♀️😂 And believe it or not, it happens all the time with Facebook Marketplace pickups too. I never even think to say, “Hey, by the way, I’m a girl!” 😂
Recently, my son picked up an item for me, and the seller asked him if his daddy was the vintage collector. Nope… it’s Mama! 😂❤️
🐦⬛What's your dream estate sale find?
💕My dream would be to buy all the quilts my heart desires without ever having to look at the price tag! 😂❤️ I’d probably need a whole house just to store them all! 🧵✨
🐦⬛What do you love most about our community?
💕Definitely the way we all support and encourage each other. It truly feels like a little family, and that makes being a Magpie so special. ❤️🐦✨
🐦⬛What's your favorite thing about vintage shopping?
💕I love the hunt, but I especially love the time I get to spend with my favorite thrifting buddies! ❤️ My husband and best friend are always up for an adventure, my sister is game for a Marketplace pickup, and even my son comes along as the muscle when needed. 😂 You never know where thrifting will take you—you just have to follow where the hunt leads! 🛍️✨
