The shop had 4 very excited and proud girls today. All 4 started the class together to learn to sew and their 1st project was shorts. After learning the basics of sewing (some which will be reinforced each time they sew) they each were measured, pattern size determined, then they picked out individual patterns. The next step was picking out material. Each girl picked out the piece they liked then had to make sure was enough yardage to make the pattern they picked. Each girl then traced off the size to fit them from the pattern. After being shown how to pin pattern on material they proceed to cut it out. The week they were sewing their shorts we had 2 of the girls going on vacation Saturday of that week and they really wanted to take their shorts with them. So the other 2 girls let these two sisters get lots of individual help so they could finish their shorts. They were very excited to take them with them.
Now this week at class the 2 sisters reported they told everyone they made their shorts while on vacation. They also spent most of the 2 hours of class doing work at the shop so the other 2 girls could get their shorts done. (These young girls work at the shop 1 hour each week to pay for the class, pattern, and material) Then in the last 30 minutes of class time they all picked our a simple shirt pattern and material to start next week. I know this post is long however I'm really proud of these young girls not just for wanting to learn to sew but to willingly work for the privilege and for being so considerate to each other working together so they could all get what they wanted. Don't you just hate to take the cover off the carseat when a diaper has overflowed or something has spilled in it? Well you are going to love this. An alternative to taking the whole cover off. A carseat leak guard. The buckles fit through it with specially placed cuts that have been reinforced and can be reclosed. Check out the pictures of the leak guard in the carseat. We have these 2 on hand as of July 19 and have more in the making. They run $25 each or 2 for $45. Once you have 1 you will want 2 I promise this will make your life as caretaker of the carseat much easier.
