I woke up today to an orange colored sun ☀️; the effect of smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Unhealthy with bouts of hazard ⚠️ to everyone. While temporary, it makes me think of what it was like during the Great Depression & Dust Bowl….
a devastating, decade-long environmental disaster in the 1930s that decimated the Great Plains. Caused by a combination of severe, recurring droughts and over-farming with unsustainable agricultural practices, it destroyed millions of acres of farmland, displaced over 3 million people…. There are typically wildfires every summer but I’m not sure of the scale of severity in years past. Times like these, I continue to pray 🙏 for the safety of all, including farm animals just outside in our pasture.

Where are my maker friends? The Drunkard’s Path is a classic patchwork pattern built from curved blocks. Each individual block consists of just two pieces—a concave “innie” (the background) and a convex “outie” (the circle or path). By simply rotating the blocks, you can create flowing, meandering ribbons, interlocking circles, or floral designs. Preowned and loved 🥰. Available for purchase Creative acres ❤️

Did you know…. That your state has a quilt block?!?!?
From approximately 1907 to 1912, the American farm and living magazine Hearth and Home invited its readers to contribute pieced cloth blocks that represented their respective states. The request for submissions was extremely successful, and readers sent in many designs that they felt showcased their home state. Selected blocks were photographed and included in the print magazine. The series was discontinued in 1912, but the idea of quilt blocks that represent states has remained popular in American quilting culture.

Many current quilters have based their 50 state quilts on the original designs from Hearth and Home, while others used those designs for inspiration and created their own patterns. Each of the 50 state designs is unique with a distinct color combination and a matching border to enhance the overall design. It peaked my interest Creative acres ❤️ .

The Goose Tracks quilt block is a traditional patchwork design that gained widespread popularity in the United States during the late 19th century. Named for the triangular, “webbed” shapes pointing outward from the corners, it was heavily featured in commercial newspaper patterns and farm catalogs in the 1890s.While the motif of “flying geese” or “goose tracks” dates back to the 1800s as a reflection of pioneer farm life, the specific layout of the 9-patch block became a staple of commercial pattern networks in the 1880s. The name itself reflects the heavy influence of the natural environment and everyday pioneer experiences on quilt design. Creative acres
