Women in Construction: Safety shouldn't be a barrier to entry. 👷‍♀️✨

At Construction Ready Expo, We caught up with Sophie Shelar, the inspiring high school freshman behind BuildHER Future, to discuss how she’s changing the face of the construction industry for women - one toolkit at a time.

At Portwest, we are proud to sponsor this initiative by replacing "Shrink it and Pink it" gear with professional, female-specific safety aparel. As Sophie puts it: "When apparel isn't actually made for a woman’s body, she doesn't just feel uncomfortable; she feels unsafe."

Sophie is Inspiring even the Youngest Future Builders
At Construction Ready Expo, 7-year Miller walked into the World of Future Builders with her dad, she hid slightly behind his leg. When Sophie approached Miller and asked it she would like to build something with her, Miller gripped her dad’s leg a little tighter. But, slowly with a little help from her dad and Sophie, Miller moved from fear to confidence, all within about 15 minutes!
