Hobo Bag #2 is coming along quite nicely…even though I am evidently trying very hard to ruin it 🙂

1) I cut the inside bottom out of the blue fabric, but then realized later that the fabric I cut it from ‘twas the actual inside side panel….i didn’t discover this until I had done the next on this list
2) As I was cutting fabric for that super cool pocket, I cut through the piece I had already cut through the bottom piece…
3) Grabbing the left over blue fabric to cut a new bottom is when I discovered the mistake I made in #1

Luckily I had just enough to cut a new inside panel. 🙂

Lessons learned..always learning, and I I will also be always labeling…

My cousin Stephanie Hudson brought me some fabric to make a hobo bag.

As always, each project is a process. 🙂

Take those fabrics and see what coordinates. What is the inside? What is the outside? What do I have that I can upcycle?….wait..can I make it reversible?!?!

This is what is on the table this morning. Will it be what is used in the end product? Stay tuned

I love sewing, for sure.
But, I like all sorts of creative activities which means my house resembles a mini Hobby Lobby…which also means I have a bucket of mini people.
This also means I can use the mini people in a scene with this giant mushroom today 🙂

Embarking on a completely new skill…making shoes 🙂
It’s a process. Mainly because I can just do something the easy way. I mean, it isn’t a PC Chic project unless there is some nod to IT.
This Chameleon logo is my go-to for anything I design for myself. It represents my tech side and my gym side. A Chameleon can fit in anywhere. If I was brave enough to get a tattoo, this would be it
90 minutes in this morning. Had to add my printer and scanner so I could make my own fabric design. Plus this is some sort of UV paper that I have never used before.
But, I think I finally got it. Next comes printing and ironing…so stay tuned

On to the next project….

I will be making these shoes.
I will be making my own fabric…meaning I have a bunch of fabric markers so I will be taking blank white fabric and adding my own design 🙂

I do love a good disclaimer…this pattern has a lengthy one.

And just like that…It is done. 🙂 I departed from the instructions on how the inside of the bag attaches to the outside....

And just like that…

It is done. 🙂

I departed from the instructions on how the inside of the bag attaches to the outside. The instructions called for using binding to hold it together. I would rather chop my left pinkie off and poke my eyeball out with it than do binding. It just never looks nice.

I also used some new hardware. The legs on the bottom are a new one for me. The interior has 2 clips for hanging things on. The flap uses Jean buttons to hold it on.

The flap also has those 2 cool straps and hardware..but they do nothing but look pretty. My next iteration of this bag is going to make them either more functional or take the hardware off and just sew them directly to the flap.

In any case…

This meets a few of my sewing criteria
1) It used fabric I already had
2) It upcycled some old jeans
3) This used an older pattern that was given to me. (Thanks Joni Haynie Redman)
4) I learned stuff…as I really love how the flap attaches and will definitely use this on other bags.

A teeny tiny part of my brain kept thinking something didn’t make sense with this magnetic enclosure. That tiny part just kept screaming louder until the rest of my brain finally listened.

OPTION…Which means there is more than 1 way to put it together and I must choose 1.

Luckily that teeny tiny part of my brain made me realize all this before I put the whole bag together. Easy fix was just to remove the magnetic enclosure from the inside. 🙂. No harm no foul.

Here’s the thing about game plans and instructions. Some of them make sense…some don’t.
Like, sewing the 2 end pieces to form the outside of the purse..this makes sense. I mean, I had to rip out one rounded corner and cuss at the other 3, but, hey, is it a sewing project if it doesn’t involve cuss words?
Marking where the feet go and putting them on AFTER the outside shell is together? No sense whatsoever. But, by this point, there is no way I am ripping this back apart to make sure they are really placed in the exact spot. I use the “eyeball it” technique.
The next step was to cut a piece of stiff interfacing and then press it to the inside of the purse shell. Yeah, that resulted in a melted piece and my first piece of garbage for this project.

Ultimately I put the bottom stiff piece on the outside of the inner liner, while it is still flat. Achieves the same effect and I don’t have to do acrobatics to get it pressed to the inside of the purse.

I will also be making a smaller piece of liner to go over each of the holding tabs of the feet so they are a bit stronger.

I am now about a third of the way complete with sewing.

After the monumental decisions made over fabrics and getting the pieces cut, what comes next is arguably the most time part.
Cutting the various backings and then all the ironing. I like to iron, then fuse the backing, then a quick ironing again.
Next up is going back over each piece to cut off excess backing and square up all the pieces.

This stage took about 90 minutes. I know..who would have thought that the most time consuming pieces of a sewing project isn’t actually the sewing :-)
