I "just" missed their yearly Peach Festival!

Gaffney, South Carolina, is best known as the "Peach Capital of South Carolina" and for its quirky 135-foot peach-shaped water tower, the Peachoid. It also gained recent pop-culture fame as the setting of fictional President Frank Underwood's grave in Netflix's House of Cards.

The city's unique claim to fame and local culture are defined by a few key highlights:

The Peachoid: Visible from Interstate 85, this Atlas Obscura landmark—originally built in 1981 by Chicago Bridge & Iron—holds 1 million gallons of water and is famously sculpted and painted to look exactly like a massive peach. [1, 2]

Deep Peach Heritage: Cherokee County produces millions of pounds of peaches annually. Local spots like Abbott Farms are institutions for fresh fruit, homemade cider, and peach preserves.

House of Cards Tourism: Pop culture fans frequently visit the real Oakland Cemetery to see the Atlas Obscura resting place of fictional character Frank Underwood, which became a viral roadside attraction.

Historic Downtown & Dining: The charming, brick-paved downtown area features spots like Harold's Restaurant, an establishment open since 1932 that is famous for its classic chili burgers.

Revolutionary War History: Located just a few miles away from major historic sites, the area offers direct access to the National Park Service Cowpens National Battlefield and Kings Mountain National Military Park.

Hello my friends! Currently in Dalton, Georgia and have 2 property showings scheduled for Sunday in Summerville, so the Parade of Homes begin! 6am tomorrow I plan to hit Big D's Flea Market. Have watched Jason from Warehouse 71 shop the market for a long time so it's been on my bucketlist...I'll be in hot pursuit of the gentleman who whittles spoons for $2. My car is pretty full already so I'm not looking for big treasures, but I LOVE to look! ...and all my stops at thrift stores are just for books. When I sold my lake house years ago, I gave away most of my cookbooks so I'm picking up some interesting ones. Found Mr. Food today and it reminded me of Mummy, she watched him everyday on the news and often asked us to print out specific recipes she thought looked yummy. I would have purchased this one today if she was still with us. 💜 Hope everyone is staying hydrated in the heat! ☀️

Toured Soddy Daisy, Dunlap & Whitwell today...not feeling homey vibes so tomorrow I'm heading to North Georgia and will spend several days in various areas before heading to the Upstate of SC. Stopped into a few Thrift Stores for books and then found something I didn't know I needed.....AND....whenever I find brick oven pizza, I like to give it a try....this one was a little lack luster here in Cleveland. Keeping the optimistic jar full! When I stopped at the scenic outlook the security chains were full of locks people leave behind....pretty cool!

Good evening friends! Didn't quite make it to Kentucky, I stopped for the night in Jackson, Ohio. 's was amazing! So big and packed with all kinds of home goods....on to Berlin.....wow! This place is just like Shipshewana....small unique shops, lots of entertainment and I just love the hilly terrain. I'm sure my Ohio friends are aware and may frequent, but if you haven't, it's definitely worth the trip! Most of the pictures are from Lehman's. was a great stop, got a seed catalog, fermentation weights, new garden snips and at Lehman's I picked up a dough wisk.

Good morning peeps!
So today begins my retirement adventures in Ohio. After a long week of packing and purging, it's official, I am out of the Victorian and have left Shipshewana. Drove to Ohio, visited with my parents best friends, Max and Helen, then my cousin Linda and on to Perrysburg to visit the cemetery to say goodbye to Mummy & Pappa (and all grandparents) then on to stay the night with my little brother Jeff, Chrissy and their very active and vibrant great niece Moreya...last night I was "Aunt Julie!" Today I will make my way to other Amish Communities in Ohio, I want to visit and 'sHardware (preparing for my homesteading adventure!) Then I will drive down into Kentucky and probably stop and spend the night. I've been asked to keep posting here on my You-nique Lifestyle Page so I will for awhile so you can follow along with my search for a new life in retirement! Let's see what "good trouble" we can get into! Stay tuned!

After 20 wonderful years, the time has come for me to retire and close the doors of the very last location of You-nique Bou-tique. And it's apropos since Shipshewana is where it all began.

What started as a way to sell my angels and jewelry became so much more than just a way to pay my bills. It evolved....I evolved.

With the help and dedication of family & friends, You-nique Bou-tique grew into a brand with multiple locations. You-nique Bou-tique became a lifestyle of likeminded women who wanted to set themselves apart from the norm and express their individuality and just not -look/dress/be- like everyone else.

Our locations became places filled with laughter, (and some tears,) friendships, confidence, beautiful conversations, and each one, filled with so many unforgettable women.

Together we celebrated birthdays, holidays, new beginnings, hard seasons, and all the little moments in between...often with fabulous jewelry and a you-nique outfit to match!

To every customer who walked through our doors, shared my posts, brought a friend, or simply stopped in to say hello… thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your loyalty and encouragement over these 20 years have meant more than words can truly express. The outpouring of heartfelt comments and gestures over these last few months have truly touched my soul.

Being part of this community has been one of the greatest blessings of my life. While it is bittersweet to close this chapter, I do so with a full heart, deep gratitude, and excitement for the next season ahead, wherever it lands me!

You-nique Bou-tique was never JUST about clothing and accessories. It was about helping women feel beautiful, special, confident, and uniquely themselves.

Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your lives for the past two decades. I will cherish the memories always.

I only wish Mummy & Papa were with me today to help me close this chapter, as I learned after they passed, they were so very proud of what I created and how I invited family to join in, but now they are waiting for me on the other side...oh what a reunion that will be!

In any event, I will close this with love and gratitude and may you always be blessed with a You-nique Lifestyle!

xoxo,
Jewels
