Lady of The Cloth

Lady of The Cloth Fabric Arts for discriminating tastes. And, the BEST aprons, accessories and all fun fabric things! while also serving in the church. Oh, I'm having fun!

This "Lady of The Cloth" is retired pastor, Rebecca L Smith, who has served in bi-vocational ministry (consulting, community-building, program development, fundraiser, etc.) I am always on the lookout for unique fabrics that "speak to my soul" AND I only sew with fabric I enjoy! Each fabric dictates the product and style that will be created, with each item individually designed and created. I sta

rted my sewing business by creating the "Towel-in-Hand," (formerly called the "Kitchen Stole), a re-design over the popular kitchen boa of a few years ago. My design was reversible and featured removable towels for easy washing, both improvements designed for extended wear with minimal care. Now, my signature product is the reversible Apron, each one individually designed and crafted using premium cotton fabric and materials. I begin by pre-washing the fabric for your comfort and care and then use the best construction products I can for a high-quality product that will last for years to come. Other popular products include the eco-friendly "Doggy Poo Bags," embellished kitchen towels, and simple tote bags. New product offerings are often in the design process and featured in upcoming vendor events and fairs. From my earliest of days, I remember wanting to sew a dress. As a youngster, I laid out a flat sheet on my bedroom floor, took a marker and traced around my body. I cut out the shape and stapled it together, eagerly awaiting an opportunity to show off my new creation! I was so disappointed when my new dress did not account for any body depth, only shape and I couldn’t put it on! Two years later my Mom, a home economics instructor, helped me sew my first “real” dress in second grade, using my great-aunt’s treadle sewing machine. It was a red felt jumper and I beamed with pride each time I wore it. Periodically I'll take a peak at that red felt dress and think about those early days when Mom taught me how to sew. When I turned 16, Mom gave me her sewing machine, an Elna Supermatic, which has been a dependable friend throughout time. Through the years I sewed various projects, mainly window coverings or clothing for my daughters in their younger years. As life and work responsibilities increased, I set my sewing machine aside and wondered if I'd ever pick up my Elna Supermatic again. But, I did.... in retirement. We left the Midwest which had been our home for decades and moved closer to my childhood home of Southern California. We settled in a beautiful area of southeast Arizona known as the Sky Islands. We love the moderate temperatures of this upper desert area with its beautiful vistas and down-to-earth people that make this an idea place to begin this new adventure. I have a large workroom filled with several sewing machines, lots of cotton fabrics where I design and "create," and lots of projects in various stages of completion. Whether it be a customized reversible apron, Doggy Poo Bag or any number of other creations, I'd love to help you design your personalized item that reflects your personality. Feel free to contact me for your custom creations. I'd love to bring a smile to your face and help you discover joy in your kitchen, around your table, or out in your neighborhood!

For all those who served and paid the ultimate sacrifice during my life time and for decades and decades before, we thank them on this Memorial Day, remembering their service, love of country and sacrifice. No words can capture their sacrifice for our freedom. May we continue their service, love of country and love of freedom.
