I am looking forward to cooler weather (!) and this year’s Rural Road Trip later this month! The shop is still utter chaos as I have been working hard to get some projects for both the shop and clients wrapped up. 🥴 Also, this girl could sure use cooler weather for stripping furniture again! 😜🥵

Ah, I love it when you all send me photos of your new pieces in your homes! And look at this one!?!♥️🖤 This customer has trusted me with a couple projects now of which I am grateful! ☺️ This hutch is stunning and ready to showcase beautiful little things (behind closed doors where dust can’t land)! My favorite feature on this piece has always been those arches. Gah! ♥️ Thank you so much for your ongoing support of our Sigourney small shop!!

Funny story:

I was cleaning our Airbnb a couple days ago and was in the space for about 3 hours working. Eric went up the next day and said, “Yeah, now I have to figure out how to get to that balloon up there.”

I said, “What balloon?!”

This antique washstand has a “musty old smell,” as we like to call it. After thoroughly cleaning the inside with a good degreaser, a couple wipe-downs with vinegar followed by 5 days of hot sunshine and warm air, we have made lots of improvement!! If needed for lingering odor, the last thing I do is coat the inside of the piece with shellac. Shellac is an alcohol-based traditional finish that seals odors, stains, etc.

The frames are removed and placed in the extractor then honey flows into a coarse filter which rests on top of food-grade buckets. The hotter the day, the easier the flow! 🥵 The buckets are left to rest several days and then honey is filtered again to remove any leftover wax before bottled. The whole process is a TON of work! This year 2026 may be the record for stings too! I will tell you a bee in your ear canal followed by getting stung in the ear…is not fun! Eric’s neck and face were popular targets so you may not recognize him for a few days until the swelling goes down. 🫪 Yay for Local, Raw Honey 🙃🫠

Honey Harvest 2026 begins for us today. Eric calls it, “The BEAT DOWN.” 🥵😉🤣

Stay tuned for shop openings in September! Right now, I will be open during the Sigourney Expo craft show weekend and again during Rural Road Trip 9/25 & 9/26. As always, shoot me a message if you want something before that. I am looking forward to seeing you all this fall!! 🍁🍂🎃. In the mean time, I’ll be hot, sticky and hoping for only a couple bee stings 🐝

Removing, cleaning and oiling caster wheels is an important step for many antique furniture pieces. Many times they don’t need to be replaced. I soak these with a 1:1 mixture of hot water and vinegar then clean with an abrasive cleaner using a brass brush. I then oil the wheels with mineral oil for smooth future movement.
