Believe it or not, this fabric was left over from my recent serger scarf class (I even had enough left to make my granddaughter a little romper). It's a cotton knit from sewbatik.com. I used my favorite little stretch stitch for the topstitching rather than a coverstitch and I lengthened it to 3mm. This is a functioning snap placket...snaps are for more than just baby clothes! This pattern is the Monaco Tank (with different back and neckline options) from Greenstyle Patterns at greenstyle.com.

Are you cleaning the bobbin area of your machine regularly? Great, but are you cleaning more than just under the bobbin case? Notice how clean that area is, but everything else is packed with lint that can absorb lubricants and leave your machine dry. Notice the lint between the feed teeth. This can keep the feed teeth from being able to rise fully and move your fabric through the machine, creating short stitches. This gauzy top is from a few years ago, but I wanted to share it because it was fabric and trim from my stash, and this pattern offered the perfect opportunity to embellish with some decorative stitching and metallic beads (these are plastic, sew-on beads I found at Michael's). I'm always trying to find ways to use some of those decorative stitches we all have on our machines.

I wanted to try out these trendy charms, so I made these for some friends. Here are a couple of suggestions, if you'd like to give them a try: don't use metallic thread (it's a hassel and doesn't create a smooth finish), do some test stitching (I had to skip the initial knotting stitches because they caused a nest) and be very careful with your trimming. These are from Anita Goodesign and use a heavy plastic sheet rather than wash-away stabilizer. What a great way to customize gifts for friends and family!
