Historical week! 1️⃣

🇺🇸 Betsy Ross 🇺🇸

Did you know that Betsy Ross (Elizabeth) is credited with sewing the first American flag? A skilled upholsterer and seamstress from Philadelphia, she has become a symbol of American independence, patriotism, and craftsmanship. According to popular tradition, George Washington and other members of a congressional committee asked Ross in 1776 to create a flag for the new nation, and she suggested the now-famous five-pointed star.
Whether fact or legend, Betsy Ross's story continues to inspire generations as a reminder of the determination, creativity, and courage that helped shape America.

Do you know what kind of fabric was used? Post your answer below ⬇️

🇺🇸❤️🤍💙 America 250 💙🤍❤️🇺🇸

Celebrating America's 250th birthday, we’ve been thinking about all of the beautiful red, white, and blue quilts our guild members have created this year alone! Each one tells a story—not just of our nation's history, but of creativity, friendship, and the love stitched into every block.

This throwback is a celebration of those patriotic quilts that have graced our meetings, shows, and sew days. From traditional stars and stripes to modern interpretations, each quilt reflects the unique vision of its maker while honoring the colors that unite us.

Quilts have long been part of the American story, passed from generation to generation, preserving memories and marking important moments. As we prepare to celebrate 250 years of our nation, it's fitting to look back at the incredible talent within our guild and the quilts that have brought us together.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their time, talent, and passion through these stunning red, white, and blue creations. Here's to honoring our past, celebrating our present, and stitching our way into the future.

Have a safe and happy 4th everyone! 🇺🇸

✨Modern Quilt Month✨
Celebrating two very different pieces that both reflect how deeply personal quilting can be.

The first quilt is more than a project—it’s a tribute. Created from a picture, this project captures the likeness of a beloved pet, preserving a moment in time that words could never fully express. Every color was carefully selected, every seam placed with intention. As the image slowly came to life in fabric, it became clear that this piece was about more than accuracy—it was about love, remembrance, and the quiet comfort of holding onto something precious.

The second quilt is a celebration of creativity without boundaries. It’s a mixed-media piece that blends traditional quilting with a variety of artistic techniques. Cross stitch weaves delicate detail into the design, while fabric paint adds bold, expressive touches. Cotton fabrics provide the foundation, layered with appliqué that brings dimension and personality. Even fleece is incorporated, adding softness and contrast in texture. Stitching—both decorative and structural—ties everything together, allowing each element to coexist in harmony.

Have you made a remembrance quilt or something using different medias? Post a picture below, we would love to see it ⬇️

💠International Quilt Museum- Lincoln💠

Some of our Guild visited the world’s largest quilt museum yesterday and got to see the wonderful displays and have a behind the scenes tour! Lots of pictures but all worth a look! 🥰

Everything there comes from over 70 different countries, with some pieces dating back to the 1600!

The care that goes into preserving these quilts is amazing. Every space is temperature, humidity, and light controlled. Each quilt is refolded every couple of years, stored with acid-free paper to prevent creasing, and handled only with white gloves.

They have around 9,500 quilts in storage that they rotate through, and pieces from the permanent collection are usually only on display for about 12 months every 10 years. So if you have seen a wonderful display, there’s a chance you might not see it again for many years

There is an isolation room for quilts before they go on display, this is to ensure nothing can compromise the other quilts in storage

A photo setup room is located on the ground floor, this is where staff can take pictures of a quilt from above …on ANY floor …fascinating!

Have you visited the museum before? Did you have a favorite display? Let us know in the comments ⬇️
