I wanted to take the time to thank each and every last one of you who made it a point to stop in this weekend. And the people who have commented, messaged, shared. It was so nice to see so many familiar faces that I haven’t seen in what feels like forever. And I also saw a lot of brand-new faces who heard about Love Obsessed from a friend. So thank you for helping me to spread the word. It means more to me than you’ll ever know.
The most commonly asked question was “So what happens next?” Some asking directly, some indirectly, some being hopeful and some people just shy of begging me to reopen my store on a permanent basis. I will say the one person who was most persistent in their questioning of me and my future plans with LO, and what I’ve been doing with myself and my business over this past year, was the husband of a lovely couple who came in on a Sunday. I actually appreciated his candor. And I said to myself, Wow - even the husbands want me to re-open!
But many of you understand the weight of this decision. Not only the time commitment, staffing, and overhead of a retail location - it’s more so what makes the most sense for LO moving forward.
Everyone wants to feel missed, and wanted and you sure made me feel that way this weekend ❤️
Two interactions are really sticking out to me in my mind, and I wanted to share them with you. The first was a beautiful woman in a summery striped dress, fresh from a facial with glowy skin. If my memory serves me correctly, she had never been into my warehouse before or shopped with LO. And as she was getting her facial earlier that day, she was chatting it up with her aesthetician about how there is nowhere good locally to shop. And her aesthetician brought up Love Obsessed and how we were reopening that very day, so she decided to come in. As we chatted at the counter and bonded over our disdain for the lack of clothing options in our area, one of the last things she said to me was - “ We NEED this store. “ I can’t explain why hearing the word “ need” felt so different than hearing the word “want,” but it did. (BTW, if you were the esthetician in Harleysville whom I’m talking about, please comment so I can thank you 🫶🏻 )
The second interaction that remains in my brain is of a really sweet woman who came in with pictures on her phone of dresses that her granddaughter, who had moved to Pittsburgh, wanted her to pick up for her. She came to shop close to opening time, and the store was bustling with people. She purchased one dress for her and the following day returned to exchange it because she tried it on at home and knew that if it didn’t fit her, it wasn’t going to work for her granddaughter. She asked me if I would be open again on a permanent basis moving forward. And I politely told her I just don’t know yet, and she immediately looked disappointed. She frowned, shoulders slumped, and she said, “ I’m just an old lady, but I don’t know if you heard what I heard when I was in the store yesterday.” She said, “ I overheard so many conversations young girls were having on how beautiful the clothes were, how much they missed the store, wondering if you would be open again on a regular basis, and how it just felt good to be in the warehouse again.”
She ended with “ So I just thought I would share—because I felt like you needed to know. “ And I definitely did. ❤️
In the past, I would tour new retail locations and sign a lease without even sleeping on it! I was quick to say yes, yes, yes to every opportunity. Now, I’m more measured in my answers. I want to weigh everything. What’s right for me, my family, my business, and for all of you.
I will tell you this: on Saturday, my sales were higher than any Grand Opening I’ve ever had— and with fewer merchandise. And that’s saying A LOT.
So I won’t keep you waiting too long. I just want to make the right decision.
