Shameless Self-Promotion

My first real job lasted six months when Cate and I emigrated to Australia in 1968. My second job was in Singapore for 3 months. After that, we struck out on our own and moved to Penang Island, located off the north west coast of Malaysia, where we spent a year creating a coffee table book about that beautiful place. It took us a long time, but we eventually sold 10,000 copies. (I still see used ones for sale on Amazon.) Ever since then, we have been self-employed, and as such, we learned to self-promote and "blow our own horn" because there was no one else to do it. Now, I call this 'Shameless Self Promotion,’ and I’m doing it again right now!

When I finally finished developing my almost-famous Performance Gel Crutch Tips, I sent out Press Releases to everyone I could think of. My favorite magazine since I was a kid has been Popular Science, so I had to send my press release to them. They published and launched my 40-year love affair with crutch tips!

Thomas Fetterman here: I have used crutches for 73 years. I patented my Absorbalite Gel-filled shock-absorbing crutch tip and my highly wet slip-resistant tread in 1987. Lucky me, I finally had durable crutch tips that absorbed 80% of the negative ground strike force. They took the wack out of my walk and protected my hands, arms, and shoulders for the long haul. I’m sorry now that I didn’t invent them sooner. My stability improved, especially on wet, smooth surfaces. These tips kept me upright in treacherous conditions.

Today I received an order for two pairs of "gel tip" Tornado tips for crutches, along with this note:

"Thank you for your great product!! I had to go to a local pharmacy and buy another brand last month. I am VERY disappointed because the tips are nearly flat already and VERY slippery; they feel too insecure!! Look forward to receiving your new tips soon. Thank you! M.M."

This large Performance Gel crutch tip is the first production tip I made. I used them for many years because I was young and active to the extreme. They have the most shock absorption, flex and aggressive traction imaginable. They also wear forever compared to anything else I’ve known. My second patent was for my highly wet-slip resistant tread formula that I bond to the bottom of the tip (Not shown.) Though not slip-proof, they will give you huge safety advantage on wet smooth surfaces. Stay Vertical👌

Here is a video I made years ago showing how to change-out my Performance Gel Handgrips. I look at it now and see there are mistakes like me saying the word tips instead of grips.
