I have been dying to post this one. My girl Kaia gave me a huge challenge but I’m so glad she did!!! She sent me a picture of a goat in a float in a swimming pool. I accepted her parking spot but thought WHAT IN THE WORLD!!!! It is way out of my ordinary style. I struggled to wrap my head around where to take this spot. How was I going to make a whole spot look like pool water without spending so much time on it so I could get to the details she wanted? Why is there a goat in a swimming pool? Why is there a University of Houston logo?

Well, a little conversation with her classmates, a slight dive into social media now that I had a last name, and just by chance, she showed up on night 2. I was in awe! She is a phenomenal swimmer and from conversations from classmates who btw proudly speak about her being in their class, she has been #1 in the State for a little while. Then, the charismatic, bubbly yet well put together personality I met put it all together and I was now fully prepared and excited about this spot.

Like I’ve said in another post, it is so important to talk to the student. Most of all, it’s important to encourage them to get involved. These are their senior memories and I have been watching these students night after night in fellowship with one another and being creative together. They are navigating a huge project and doing outstanding work. Just because I may be painting doesn’t mean they can’t come hang out with friends with me. I encourage it. It’s about them and making their senior year memorable.

This weekend did not go quite as planned. Between wind, storms, and cracks in the pavement, I had my work cut out for me. I really am disappointed that neither space were completed this weekend. The first space was well on its way to completion yesterday and the storms caused an abrupt stop to painting the rest of the evening.

Today took a lot of prep time to start on the second spot. The cracks and grass took a few hours to clean up and try to figure out how to fill. Then, the camo had to be strategically worked around the cracks.

I am requesting from now on that any spaces that I am to paint be ready for painting upon my arrival. When I have to spend so much time prepping spots, all my best energy is spent and by the time I get to the artwork, I’m not as energized and creative. I want the spots I work on to wow and that can’t happen when I spend a lot of time cleaning in 90-100 degree weather. The temperatures alone are exhausting. If your school gives the option to have the spot prepainted, do it white. If black is the only option, just save your money and say no. Black is hard to cover thoroughly without numerous coats, especially with the lighter background colors that students typically want. The picture with the cracks and “500” is a good example. The 500 was painted in black on a white base coat. Everything but the 500 was basically covered with one layer of paint. Also, there are weather risk that has me racing the clock. It can be sunny one moment and raining the next with this unpredictable Mississippi Summer weather.

They still have a good bit of work to be done and hopefully sooner than later I can return. I’m excited about painting every student’s parking space and I want them to get my best work. Thank you to all the parents who have booked and trusted me with your student’s spot. I am overwhelmed with the out reach. Unfortunately, I’m afraid to promise anyone else that I have not reserved a date a new booking. My inbox flooded this past week and as of now I have 13 total to do prior to school starting, and this weekend is proof anything can throw plans off. If a spot becomes available, I will definitely let you guys know.

Things were going great yesterday (in my own eyes) but….. God spoke with wind. Sun was out still and a sudden strong gush of wind took my tent with two sets of weights across the parking spot and parking lot. I called mom up to let her know the situation. She brought her son and I got to talk to him. Long story short, his likes and dislikes were a little different that previously assumed. When I told him that the mishaps can be transformed to his likes, the look on his face was priceless. The grin!!! I’ve thought about it all night!!! We have got this.

He is the second child that I talked to that I needed to talk to to get it right. There are some pretty amazing kids in Desoto County and I want their spot to shine with their character. Sometimes they don’t know how to relay their vision and rely on AI which I clearly can’t paint like a computer generated image, but we can get close to a personality.

Thank you Jennifer Martin for running to my rescue as storms rolled in quickly!!!! Now, watch me transform this into a masterpiece. Thank you God for intervening!
