Hello!! I'm sure that most of you have seen my posts regarding oneshoe.org. If not, I will make a long story short. Eight years ago, I became extremely ill. By the time I went to the hospital, things weren't looking good. The doctors had no clue what was happening, because it certainly wasn't anything they had seen before. The last thing I remember before I was put into a coma, was my kids. Then I didn't see them again for a couple months. They all came to see me, I just didn't know. In all reality, I shouldn't even be here. I found out later that when I was brought into the emergency room, I had a 4% chance of survival, and my family was called to come say goodbye. Well, eight very long and painful months later, I got to go home. I lost a few parts on the way, but I was alive, and finally got to go home. I lost my left arm, right leg, vision in my left eye, my left hip was replaced, lots of muscle was dead and removed, and my left ankle is fused, meaning I cannot really move it. All of this because of a deadly disease called necrotizing fasciitis. Which is a flesh-eating disease. It literally does what it says. Eats your flesh.
It's been eight years. In those eight years, I've been trying to find something to do that would help people with a leg amputation. I have been doing a lot of thinking about what I like to do if I've been feeling down. Then I realized that I absolutely love shoes. Especially sneakers. I have spoken with multiple other people who say that buying shoes is actually a stress reliever. I believe that. Everybody looks good in a nice pair of shoes! The difference between those with two legs, and those with one, is that when we go to a shoe store, we have to buy a pair. They don't typically come in singles. Buying a pair gets expensive for those of us who only need one. I would like to try to change this, because I can't tell you how many brand- new shoes I have thrown out because I can't wear them. Ever. So, I would like to try to start a small business selling shoes to leg amputees at a fraction of the cost of what we pay for a pair.
