Hillyard Built A Hillyard-grown 501(c)3 pouring profits back into the Hillyard community and youth enrichment. Our designers were Rogers students or graduates.

Breaking the stigmas and building up Hillyard’s youth one shirt at a time. Hillyard Built's namesake was inspired threefold:

1: Founder Crystal (Perry) Via grew up in the Hillyard area attending Regal Elementary, Shaw MS and graduated from Rogers HS in 1999. Hence the name Hillyard Built

2: Every effort is being taken to keep design, production and sales within the Hillyard community. Our screen

printing company is located in Hillyard. We will participate and attend as many Hillyard festivals and events as possible to sell our product. This business will be operating with Hillyard blood. Hence the name Hillyard Built

3: A portion of proceeds from sales will be donated back into our Hillyard community's youth to help them grow and thrive. Not only will we help pay for athletic camps, but music and art programs, gear/materials, instruments, academic tutors, uniforms, mentorships etc. The sky is the limit. Our goal is to help build up our Hillyard youth. Hence the name Hillyard Built. Store hours will vary as we are operating on volunteer hours as we get our sea legs. 💜 Meet Airatrea.

For years, energetic 6-year-old Airatrea asked her mom the same question:

“Can I do gymnastics?”

Like so many parents, her mom wanted to say yes.

She just couldn’t make the numbers work.

That’s where Hillyard Built came in.

We were able to cover Airatrea’s very first gymnastics class at Spokane Gymnastics and surprise her with the cutest little leotard, because let’s be honest...when you’re six years old, you need to look good and feel good while learning cartwheels. 💜

Sometimes people think Hillyard Built is only about helping talented kids get to the next level.

But that’s only part of our mission.

It’s also about giving kids the chance to try.

To discover a new passion.
To build confidence.
To make new friends.
To find out what makes them light up.

And if gymnastics isn’t the thing that sticks?

That’s okay too.

Because every child deserves the opportunity to explore, experience, and discover who they’re becoming.

💜 Meet Jackson.

Last year, Jackson applied for a laptop because he knew his future depended on having the right tools.

As a high school student preparing for Running Start, he was earning mostly A’s while taking challenging AP classes. But without a laptop at home, completing assignments, studying, and preparing for college became an uphill battle.

In his application, he wrote:

“It would be very beneficial to me right now and for the future... so I can have a successful future and career.”

Thanks to Hillyard Built, Jackson received a brand-new laptop.

That laptop helped him finish high school, begin college, and continue pursuing his goals. Along the way, he also spent a year serving as a Hillyard Built Pirate Ambassador, giving back to the organization that had invested in him.

This week, Jackson sent us this update:

“Hillyard Built provided a brand new laptop allowing me to use the technology needed to not only graduate high school but also succeed in college so far. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the love and care Hillyard Built showed me as a Rogers Pirate. And every word in there is meaningful.”

Then he added one more message that meant the world to us:

“Well I appreciate you guys a lot. You guys do so much for everybody and have done so much for me.”

Those are the moments that remind us why Hillyard Built exists.

🚨CORNHOLE REGISTRATION IS OPEN🚨 Last year, we kept throwing around the phrase “more than just cornhole”. We wanted this event to become bigger and more community oriented, but we didn’t exactly know how to expand on that. We had our hands full with monitoring boards, keeping score, and running check in. As soon as last years tournament ended, the amazing team at 509 Co****le offered to run the tournament for us! With their help, we have been able to make our “Co****le tournament” into the now “Hillyard Bash”! This year we will have a 21+ Division, 21+ Competitive Division, and a Family Division! Join us September 12 for a great community fun day full of car shows, Co****le, local vendors, RHS Clubs, and community! Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each division, and we of course will have raffles & so much more! 💜 Meet Aja’Layah.

Aja’Layah has been playing soccer since she was 4 years old.

When she was invited to join a club team during COVID, it opened the door to a whole new level of competition, and she’s been proudly defending her team ever since.

Over the past two years, Hillyard Built has had the privilege of helping Aja’Layah continue chasing her passion.

In her first application, she wrote:

“Soccer is my passion, and being part of a competitive team has helped me grow as a player. Sometimes the costs like team fees, travel expenses, uniforms, and training make it hard for my family to keep up.”

A year later, her love for the game hadn’t changed.

“Soccer is important to me because it helps me have fun, stay healthy, and spend time with my friends. Financial assistance would help me keep playing and learning new skills while helping my mom with the cost.”

This week, her mom shared this update:

“Club soccer can be a financial hardship for our family, but my mom always finds a way to make it possible. We’re especially grateful to Hillyard Built for helping ease some of that burden. Their support allows me to continue doing what I love.”

That simple sentence says it all.

Sometimes the greatest gift isn’t introducing a child to something new.

It’s making sure they don’t have to give up something they already love.

⏳ 15 Days to Go

💜 Meet Osvaldo (AKA Ozzy).

Ozzy has been part of the Hillyard Built family for over a year.

His first grant wasn’t for music at all, it was to attend a cookie decorating class at Kitchen Engine, where he and three fellow culinary students from Rogers High School learned how to prepare hundreds of cookies for one of their school’s fundraisers.

This year, Ozzy came back with a new dream.

He applied for help covering the cost of private French horn lessons.

But what stood out wasn’t simply his love of music, it was why he wanted to pursue it.

In his application, he wrote:

“These funds would be incredibly significant for me as it closely follows my life goal, which is to inspire, help, and give hope to others. Using music to connect to the hearts and souls of my community... This will allow me to gain a higher education and skillset on my French Horn and allow me to share it with my community, hopefully even joining the Spokane Symphony someday!”

What a beautiful reminder that every young person has their own way of making a difference.

Some lead on a field.
Some inspire on a stage.
Some bring hope through music.

We’re honored to be a small part of Ozzy’s journey and can’t wait to see where his passion takes him.

🎉 Please help us wish our Conductor of Marketing 🚂 a very Happy Birthday!!!

Cass’s love for our community, especially our youth, is unmatched.

Watching the way she pours into our Pirate Ambassadors and genuinely cares about their mental health, confidence, and overall well-being is something truly special. She shows up, listens, encourages, and fights for these kids in ways most people never see.

Business and marketing may be at the core of who Cass is (and she absolutely kicks ass at both), but it’s her heart and compassion for our youth that truly takes the cake. We are incredibly lucky to have her helping lead Hillyard Built and making such a meaningful impact on the lives of the kids we serve.

💜 Meet Lexi.

For nearly two years, Lexi has been one of Hillyard Built’s Pirate Ambassadors, and without question, one of the hardest-working leaders on our team.

When she first applied to become an ambassador, she wrote:

“I love Hillyard because it’s where I’ve lived for the past few years, and it’s shaped me into who I am. I would like to give back to my community and make it a welcoming place for others as well as help get others involved.”

That heart for her community is exactly why she’s become such an important part of Hillyard Built.

This year, we had the opportunity to invest in Lexi by helping cover the registration fees for a softball skills camp.

The very next day, she couldn’t wait to tell us about her experience.

She learned new drills, fundamentals, stretches, and recruiting strategies. She gained a better understanding of what college coaches are looking for and how to showcase her abilities.

But her biggest takeaway had nothing to do with softball.

“The most important thing I learned was that it’s okay to make mistakes. Even the best girls were swinging and missing balls, and that doesn’t mean they’re bad, it’s human.”

She also realized something that had always intimidated her.

“College coaches and practices are made out to be so intense, but they were all so nice and just wanted to have a good time!”

Sometimes, an opportunity doesn’t just teach new skills.

It replaces fear with confidence.

⏳ 17 Days to Go

💜 Meet Creedence…one of our favorite success stories

When Creedence applied for a Hillyard Built grant, he wanted the chance to try something completely new.

His family was facing financial challenges, and gymnastics simply wasn’t an option. In his application, he wrote:

“These funds would benefit me to be more engaged and thrive in a community I really like. I hope to learn new skills and make new friends through the program.”

With Hillyard Built’s support, Creedence enrolled in trampoline and entry level gymnastics and received the practice gear he needed to get started.

He only had three months of formal coaching, but those three months changed far more than his technique.

They helped him overcome the fear of trying something new.

Learning how to safely flip, twist, and trust his body gave him confidence he never had before. Skills that once seemed impossible became second nature, and with the guidance of a coach, he learned not only how to perform them, but to believe he could, and with absolute confidence!!

When we asked him for an update, he shared:

“Because of the funds from Hillyard Built I was able to do gymnastics. Even though I only had three months of lessons, it taught me how to do tricks safely and trust myself and my abilities. Having a coach really helped with my form and overcoming the fear.”

Today, Creedence is enrolled at the University of Washington this fall, ready for an exciting new chapter.

Gymnastics wasn’t the destination, but it was the opportunity that taught him to trust himself, face his fears, and discover he was capable of more than he ever imagined.

LOOK AT THAT TALENT HE TAPPED INTO!!! If he never would have taken those classes, he would have never attempted these flips. AMAZING!!
