Before a boot can be rebuilt, it has to be taken all the way down.

In this teardown, we remove the worn sole, heel, and old materials so the boot can be cleaned up, rebuilt, and put back to work.

We tear down the worn heel and sole, clean everything up, prep the boot, then glue and press a new sole into place.

A closer look at the bottoming process.

The midsole is set in place, secured with nails, shaped by hand with a hammer, and then trimmed down with a 5-in-1 before the boot moves on to the next step.

A lot of the strength in a handmade boot starts in the parts most people never see.

This is how the heel cap gets locked into place.

The nails are driven through the heel cap and into the heel base, securing it to the boot before the heel moves on to final shaping and finishing.

Most people never see how much work goes into building a custom sole.

Glued, pressed, shaped, sanded, and finished by hand until the fit and final shape are exactly where they need to be.
