Vulnerability Post Ahead:
The unrelenting pressures a small business owner goes through is just down right suffocating at times. I’m feeling this immensely right now as I’m about to undergo spinal surgery and have already been out of commission for 6 months. I’ve noticed my follower account dwindling down, my markets that I love dearly continue on without me (obviously.. but still hurts to be missing out on them), my other small business friends move on from checking up after a certain point, and just the feeling of being left behind in several aspects of my life. I’m not posting this for sympathy or for you to feel bad for me… but just to raise awareness that every unfollow, every missed out order,… is very much felt by anyone who can’t be present in their business for whatever reason. The same can be said for every follower that stays, that checks up, that is still present for even the small things.. it’s immeasurable in how much it can mean to someone battling anything.
Wednesday, I’ll be having a two-level ACDF surgery that will last at least 4 hours. My surgeon said I’ll have to arrive at the hospital at 5am and should be coming out of surgery around 11ish (if everything goes to plan). My recovery, I’m told, will be over 12 weeks.. from wearing a neck brace for a minimum of 4 weeks 24/7.. to starting PT sometime after 8 weeks (if healing is going well.) It’s going to be a rough recovery and a long one (did you know that it can take over a year for a fusion to actually take place? It can also fail.. I’ve learned so much in this process). I’ll also have to wear a machine for 6 months for several hours every day that is supposed to help increase fusion rates by around 30%? All this to say… it’s going to be a long process. To say I’m not worried about losing more followers, missing more markets, and having my customers move on.. would be a lie… I feel like it consumes me most of the time. I’m working on it.. but a business is someone’s life blood.. So please just have patience with me…with anyone really.. but especially a small business owner..the pressure is crushing.. but great people make it easier!
