Got a little retail therapy this morning 👗
Growing up, my family was pretty poor. Like my-mom-made-all-of-our-clothes-except-for-once-a-year-school-shopping kind of poor... Anyway, i learned how to sew quite young. In high school i started working and using what little money i made to transform clothes from thrift stores into clothes for myself (and friends!). As i got older and became more conscious, i learned how much the planet is affected by the clothing industry. Now i'm not knocking on new clothes, but do you know the environmental impact caused by making new fabric and clothes?? Because it blew my mind. It's pretty devastating. So, i decided i could do my little part by vowing to only buy "pre-owned" and already-existing clothing. In doing so, i developed a love and appreciation for vintage clothing. I love how much care went into the clothing of the 40s-60s. Making your own clothes was cool af, and many's only option. Also, the clothes weren't only made better, they were taken care of better. There is a reason why you can still find tons of vintage clothes in great shape, even after 40+ years.
I'm no longer ashamed of the dresses i make out of curtains and sheets, or a skirt crafted from an old pair of pants. I'll rock all of it! And now my goal is to help other's embrace this lifestyle.
