Curtis and I have made the difficult decision to close the rock shop at the end of December. This choice comes after a long period of reflection, and unfortunately, recent events have made it clear that continuing is no longer healthy or sustainable for us.
Saturday, while I was helping a family who seemed kind and friendly, several of their adult children were caught on camera stealing from the shop. The mom was outside keeping me distracted while 3 others whom I assume were her grown children were inside picking up items and the two women would find something they wanted and set it down on top of the gumball machine and the guy then would come pick the items up and pocket them. You can even hear one of the girls say " I just wasn't going to get it, but I want you to steal it ". The other lady that was with them who clearly knew they were stealing must've had some sort of conscious because when I offered her a discount when checking her out she refused and said she would pay full price and then told me to keep the change. Now I realize the reason she did that was because she knew what the others were doing and was trying to make it right the only way she knew how. This wasn’t the first time theft has happened, but it was the moment that finally broke my spirit. I’ve always tried to treat everyone with kindness, fairness, and trust — and it hurts deeply to realize that some people take advantage of that.
Please don't steal. Stealing has a more profound affect than anyone realizes. And it is especially hard on small businesses. It might only be a $12 item that someone stole but those $12 items add up to a much greater amount after a while. And that can mean the difference between a small business owner being able to afford groceries that week or keeping the lights on.
Running this business has meant working around the clock, pouring my heart into every detail, and trying my best to create a welcoming space. Most of you have been absolutely wonderful, and your support has meant more to me than you’ll ever know. But the constant stress, exhaustion, and repeated theft have taken a toll, and I refuse to keep sacrificing my peace and well‑being.
I want to be very clear: the good people I’ve met far outweigh the bad, and I’m grateful for every single one of you who has shown me kindness, honesty, and encouragement. You’ve restored my faith in humanity more times than I can count.
I started this business at rock bottom — financially, emotionally, and spiritually — selling crystals out of the trunk of my car. I built it into something I’m proud of, and I’m thankful for the friendships, the lessons, and the love that came with it. Curtis has supported me every step of the way, and your support has kept me going even on the hardest days.
We will be closing at the end of December and stepping into a new chapter with hope and excitement.
