In the 1960s, quarrying had already transformed much of Missouri’s granite landscape. These 1.5 BILLION year old formations could have easily met the same fate. Instead, Dr. Brown, a geologist who understood their significance, and his wife made a remarkable decision. They purchased 120 acres surrounding Elephant Rocks and later donated the land so it could be preserved for future generations.

A reminder that some of the most lasting impacts aren’t measured by what we take from the world, but by what we leave behind.

They WILLED it.

Why would someone spend nearly 50 years buying land until he owned an area the exact size of Central Park?

This is the story of Don Robinson: entrepreneur/inventor and the man behind one of Missouri’s most unique state parks.

In the PBS documentary that much of this footage comes from, Don said, “I had to do something about it or else my melon-head cousins, out of nowhere, would come out of the woodwork and sell the joint in over a weekend or something.”

The more I read and watched, the more I liked the guy.

Thanks, Don. We love the place you WILLED us. ❤️
