ORBT Wood stuffs and writing things. Growing up around woodworking and the Ozarks craft community, I've always had an interest in woodworking.

My father had a collection of antique pedal powered tools and I would spend hours playing on the scroll saw cutting out patterns. As soon as I was big enough to reach the pedals on the lathe, I was hooked and spent a great deal of time turning wood spindles. Though I took a LONG break, I took turning back up and am pleased to offer some products for sale. Much of the wood used is a mixture of new, reclaimed, domestic and exotic.

Not woodworking related. I just wanted to share how much I love the flowers on prickly pear. There is a nice healthy patch of it growing from a crack in our alley. So I liberated a couple of pads and trying to propagate it. A little reminder of my time in the desert, even though this stuff grows all over the Ozarks, too. Ok… Now, back to the shop. Margaritas later.

I need to write an ode to Osage Orange, cuz I f’ng love it! The bright yellow when it’s freshly cut. The slightly spicy smell. How it dulls my blades… well, that part not so much. I don’t see too much of it anymore. Folks really latched on to it a couple years ago. So, now I’m whittling through my last bit.

Sapele is gorgeous! I’d never worked with it much at all. A lot of acoustic guitar backs and sides are made from this.

My daughter needed a plant stand so she chose this chunk out some spare chunks I had laying around. Her little project and her choices managed to use nearly every major tool in my shop just to make a 14” circle out of this. It’s crazy iridescent once sanded and finished. This is finished with and getting some rose gold wire legs I had laying around.
