Making the best of a mistake

So when I get in the zone, I go deep. I can’t stop and I just start cranking it out. Well, a little bit back I got into that zone. And I failed to check my work, I set my rounding jack to “4”…. about half way around the brim I realized I was at 4cm not 4”. 😭 Anyway, that boo-boo cost me a felt and I got the clients hat out to them before their rodeo dead line. But what to do with a “ruined” beaver felt, I can’t sell it, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to waste it. So I reblocked it to my size, I’ve been wanting a Gus. I wanted one in natural, but this looks pretty good. And it serves as a reminder to pay attention and x2 check myself.

It’s not always glamorous or cool with fire and explosive gouts of steam and shaping. This is the grind, this is the part that hat makers gloss over, mostly because it’s boring and tedious. And as much as I like the hand crafted aspect of hand making, when I can afford a sewing machine that does this part, you best believe I’ll be looking for one.
