The idea for Collaborations came to me around 2003 after I really started crafting and sewing again. The concept of the store was to create a combination of mostly new clothing items but to also mix in some vintage clothing, chachkies, re-purposed handmade items, jewelry, and other retro cool items hand selected to indulge nostalgia. Only weeks after moving back home to Stillwater, Minnesota in 20
05 the perfect location became available. The stars had aligned and I had my chance. With the help of a carpenter & good friend, we salvaged old barn wood, old doors, windows, and re-purposed vintage items. It was this combination that created the look and atmosphere I was after. The boutique opened in May of 2006. I have always believed when you love fashion and design, the process of putting ourselves together in life and every morning is a collaboration of our unique styles, tastes, and nostalgic bits that reflect who we are and where we’ve been. I wanted the store to be a collaborative effort between our guests and our staff to build the perfect outfit or find the perfect gift. We want our customers to feel like they are in a friend’s closet picking out an outfit. The biggest compliment we can hear our customers say is that they “LOVE” shopping here and then they tell all their friends about us. We also love hearing that customers get “TONS” of compliments on outfits from Collabs :)
